PhishAlarm User Guide

Gmail

Note: The PhishAlarm Plugin for Gmail only works in a web browser and in the official Gmail mobile app. You will not see the plugin if you use a third-party email client like Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.

Gmail web client

  1. Open the suspicious message you would like to report.

  1. When the message loads you will see a menu of icons on the right side of your screen. Click the icon of an envelope on a fishing hook.

  1. The PhishAlarm pane will open on the right side of the screen. Click on the Report Phish button.

  1. The PhishAlarm pane will display a confirmation dialog, click on the Report Suspicious button to confirm.

  1. The PhishAlarm pane will display a message that the email has been submitted. Proofpoint will begin investigating the email and notify the security team.

Gmail mobile app for iOS & Android

  1. Open the suspicious message you would like to report.

  1. When the message loads, scroll to the bottom and you will see a section labeled Available add-ons. On the right touch the icon of an envelope attached to a fishing hook.

  1. The PhishAlarm pane will open at the bottom of the screen. Touch the Report Phish button.

Outlook

'New' Outlook for Windows and macOS

1. Open the suspicious message you would like to report and click on the icon of an envelope attached for a phishing hook.

2. A new window will appear. Click on the REPORT PHISH button.

Outlook for Windows and macOS – Legacy

1. Open the suspicious message you would like to report and click on the Report Phish button on the ribbon.

Outlook on the Web/OWA

1. Open the suspicious message you would like to report and click on the icon of an envelope attached for a phishing hook.
