UCLA targeting Oregon GA for DL coach

The coaching staff changes keep on coming for the UCLA Bruins football program in what has been a busy start to the 2024 calendar year.

The Bruins are “likely” bringing in Oregon graduate assistant Tony Washington Jr. to become the new defensive line coach, per a report from David Woods of Bruin Report.

“UCLA intends to hire Tony Washington Jr., an Oregon graduate assistant, as its defensive line/outside linebacker coach, according to sources.”

The move was made official on January 12, so this is a big addition for the Bruins staff.

UCLA has been busy, recently promoting Ikaika Malloe to be the new defensive coordinator after D’Anton Lynn left for USC and then promoting former Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo to tight ends coach.

UCLA also brought in former Akron OC Billy Fessler to be the new quarterbacks coach, so there has been a lot of moving parts on the coaching front as they embark on the new chapter in the Big Ten Conference.

Washington had a brief stint in the NFL but was a signee of Chip Kelly’s during his time at Oregon.
