Championing underrepresented talent, at scale, through the 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns programmes

About us

The Foundation is dedicated to championing underrepresented talent at scale. What started as the 100 Black Interns initiative, founded in 2020 by Jonathan Sorrell, Michael Barrington-Hibbert, Dawid Konotey-Ahulu, and Wol Kolade; scaled rapidly through their ambition to create countless opportunities that have empowered talented individuals to launch their careers, overcome barriers, and achieve their full potential. By promoting equity of opportunity and working with over 700 leading organisations across the full spectrum of UK industry, the 10,000 Interns Foundation’s programmes have created 5,000 paid internships for Black students and graduates and disabled students and graduates in just 3 years. The Foundation is combining access to industry with training and mentoring opportunities for the 25,000 students and graduates who have so far come through our programmes to build a diverse community of talent who will change the face of British business.

  • Our Corporate Members are the bedrock of our Foundation. They, like us, believe that EDI should live outside of policy and “best practice” and should be actioned in the here and now at all levels of an organisation. Our Corporate Members support our mission beyond hiring interns, and believe that transforming the workplace goes beyond access to early careers. Each month, we partner with and welcome new Corporate Members to the 10KIF network, and last month was no different. We are both honoured and excited to welcome Alchemy Partners , Pictet Group, RBC BlueBay Asset Management, Aspect Capital, Partners Capital, GAM Investments, Lygon Group, Ofcom and Inchcape plc joining our community! The opportunity to contribute to change is one we will always extend to those who currently participate in our programmes and of course, to those who don’t too! Become a part of our community and invest in the future of the workplace today: https://lnkd.in/ekJ7Jjrh

You know what we’re not going to talk about anymore… diversity fatigue If the events of the last week haven’t woken you up to the violence, exclusion and racism that Black and brown people face I don’t know what will.. I read recently that the opposite of 'belonging' is 'fitting in' That to belong is to experience full acceptance of who you are And fitting in is about becoming the thing that is most dominant and acceptable But when we wear our difference on our skin everyday we don’t have that luxury (And I wouldn’t change that even if I could) Diversity fatigue is a luxury And letting that impact your organisation’s priorities is socially irresponsible. The underrepresentation of Black talent is an issue as urgent today as it has ever been. 71% of Black employees feel overlooked for opportunities because of their heritage… The work continues and we couldn’t be prouder to be leading the charge with 10,000 Black Interns Action is resistance: Early bird applications open 14/08 https://lnkd.in/eeGjdeVb

It's easy to condemn racism and islamophobia by sharing a post on social media... It is much harder to challenge it when you see it show up in your day-to-day, the people you know, the media you consume, the 'off' comment by a friend or family member. But this is how we got here, because this has been bred and stoked, and allowed to be normalised; and now it's come out of the shadows. The hardest thing of all now, is to hold onto to hope in the face of so much hatred. I know like me you must be shaken and horrified by the scenes of this weekend. I am in solidarity with all muslim communities of the UK, my muslim colleagues and all our muslim interns and alumni who will be distressed by the violence of these white supremacists. I want to take this moment to also remember Sonya Massey who like Breonna Taylor was killed by police in her home in the US less than a month ago The pain we feel as a Black community that this violence continues both here and abroad cannot be understated. I know that we are all hurting as we see continue unspeakable violence against minoritised communities the world over. But we will continue to support each other and celebrate allyship We will continue to lift each other and our communities up. And at The 10,000 Interns Foundation, we will continue to create life-changing opportunities for all Black and brown students and graduates both British and foreign nationals who are studying hard in this country for a more hopeful future And for the legacy of our alumni and all those who have taken a stand against racism, islamophobia and hatred in all its forms. Although it feels impossibly hard... Hold onto images of hope And watch ordinary people stand up for what is right (here and around the world) because they will continue to and so will we.

Last week Laura Jones and I had the pleasure of visiting The 10,000 Interns Foundation office to record a video discussing the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. Thanks to our wonderful hosts Iram Raza, Yejin Son, Tiyana Henriques and Devanté A. for the warm welcome and excellent discussion. 👏 #DEI

On behalf of the 10,000 Interns Foundation, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your engagement and participation in the pilot and two full cycles of the 10,000 Able Interns programme. As you know, the initiative aimed to create paid internship opportunities for Disabled students and graduates across the UK, modelled on our flagship programme 10,000 Black Interns. We are thrilled to report that the programme resulted in a resounding 300 internships! We're incredibly proud of the programme's achievements, but as we approach our Jubilee Year (achieving our original goal of providing 10,000 internships) and look forward to the next decade, we're taking a strategic pause to maximise our impact for the future. This means carefully evaluating the 10,000 Able Interns programme to understand its successes and how we can best support our Disabled interns and alumni going forwards. We understand you may have questions or areas in which you would like to collaborate further. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at [email protected]

  • AIESEC is a remarkable global platform dedicated to developing young leaders through hands-on experiences. As a youth-led organisation, AIESEC empowers young people by providing practical experiences in challenging environments through their innovative internship exchange programs. We’re honoured to be in partnership with AIESEC and their support has been instrumental for our Foundation, enabling us to offer international interns invaluable opportunities to work with UK employers. They have been pivotal in facilitating visa sponsorships and providing immigration advice, ensuring a seamless experience for both interns and participating organisations. This collaboration is essential in championing underrepresented talent and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. We look forward to seeing what more we can achieve together through this impactful partnership.
