Site visit to the Netherlands with Alyx O'Leary-Green & @Andrew King testing aerial PL (photoluminescence) inspection technology (developed by ourselves at Above). Unlike EL (electroluminescence), which must be performed at night. Aerial PL can be performed during the day. An advantage of using PL is that aerial PL doesn't require backpowering, as the sunlight provides the power. However, it does require a special inverter software, developed by Huawei, to switch the inverter between closed and open circuits. When this switching happens, the drone takes images of the weak signal, which are then processed (by Eurac Research) to create a clear image This is a fascinating space to watch and we will soon show you the drone was able to capture. We are thankful for this great collaboration thanks to the Trust-PV Project which will now be coming to an end this month and will continue into Project Supernova #renewable #green #solar #powerfromdata #innovation

Not all faults can be identified by drone alone. The thermographic CAT Phone is a handy tool to have on-site alongside the SolarGain App. As you can see, to the naked eye you would have no idea that these cables were overheating but with the handheld thermal camera you can identify anomalies that would otherwise go unnoticed. Jordan Norrish had the opportunity to visit the Malawi Empower project in partnership with NextEnergy Foundation, which installs and manages plug and play solar systems in primary schools in the Nkhata Bay district of Malawi. Empower provides these solar systems via two channels, permanent installs on rooftops for classroom lighting, and rentable solar lanterns called light libraries.   These systems are given to the schools, and they devise the terms of leasing them to pupils. The money generated from renting them to the students goes into an investment account via SunnyMoney Malawi, SolarAid and the schools can use this capital to invest in other renewable energy projects for the schools.   Not only this, but by simply adding lighting to classrooms. It provides additional study hours to pupils, ultimately raising Nkhata Bay district's exam pass rates in the country.
