Today should mark the beginning of a new school year in Gaza, but instead of attending classes, Gaza’s children are living through another day of a brutal war that has deprived them of an education for almost an entire year now. "Our work exposes us to many violations and a feeling of disbelief. Imagine that you are going to help people but you think that you will not return to see your children and loved ones" - Buthaina, Director of the Wefaq Association for Women and Childcare - ActionAid's partner org in Gaza. URGENT: ActionAid has launched an emergency appeal to respond to the devastating floods and unfolding humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. More than 5m people have been affected, many losing their homes and livelihoods, and in urgent need of shelter, food and clean water. To reach waterlogged communities in Noakhali District, ActionAid’s dedicated network of youth volunteers is braving treacherous conditions, travelling by small boats to deliver food and crucial supplies to those stranded. Our teams are also providing mental health support to displaced families coping with the ongoing trauma of the crisis. Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid Bangladesh said: “We are deeply concerned about the impact of the flooding, particularly on women and children, who are the most vulnerable in such emergencies. The immediate challenges include access to safe drinking water and access to medical services and food. "Entire families have lost everything. We are working tirelessly to provide relief, but the scale of the crisis is overwhelming." Please donate to help us to scale up our response to this crisis: https://bit.ly/3AJNWOA

🚨 RAMALLAH, 22 August 2024 – New Israeli orders have forced thousands in Deir al-Balah to flee yet again and disrupted Gaza’s last aid hub New displacement orders issued by Israeli authorities have forced another mass movement of families and humanitarian workers from areas in Deir al-Balah - one of the only remaining areas in the occupied Gaza Strip with essential infrastructure and warehouses storing aid supplies. At least 24 NGOs have reported impacts from orders in the past week resulting in the forced displacement of staff members, operations disrupted, and at least one site sheltering civilians under attack. Warehouses storing supplies are located within the blocks that have come under orders that are resulting in forcible displacement. https://bit.ly/3T2WKoR

This World Humanitarian Day, we want to thank our supporters, the wonderful #PostcodeLotteryPeople and People's Postcode Lottery. Thanks to them, in 2023 alone, we were able to respond to 35 humanitarian emergencies worldwide and support over 3.5 million people through ActionAid’s Emergency Action Fund. At ActionAid, we know that the greatest loss of life occurs in the first 72 hours after a disaster. ActionAid’s Emergency Action Fund enables us to provide immediate support in the vital first hours and days following a disaster, while also working in partnership with communities to build resilience to future disasters. This fund has supported women like Sharmila who lives in a remote village in Jajarkot which was badly affected by the earthquake in November 2023. Her home was completely destroyed and she suffered minor injuries as a result of the earthquake. Sharmila had been attending disaster awareness sessions organised by one of ActionAid’s partners. In the aftermath of the earthquake, Sharmila and other women in Jajarkot, came together to advocate for the rights and needs of women and other marginalised groups. She is now one of the women leading the creation of women safe spaces alongside ActionAid Nepal and their partner KRIDAC. Through their unwavering determination and advocacy, Sharmila’s group have emerged as powerful agents of change, steering their community towards a more inclusive and resilient future. Please share her story. #WorldHumanitarianDay, #actofhumanity
