Our reluctance motors offer something unique—freewheeling capability. Unlike conventional electric motors, our reluctance motors operate without permanent magnets. So, without magnetic forces in the rotor, they can spin freely when not energised, resulting in zero drag and zero losses. This feature makes our motors ideal for applications like towed vehicles where efficiency and versatility are paramount. Permanent magnet motors would continue to generate electricity when towed, potentially leading to wasted energy and wear over time. A couple of months ago, AEM attended Road Transport Expo 2024, where we showcased our HDSRM300 motor for an innovative retrofit kinetic energy recovery system (KERS). We are pleased to share that our motor was featured in a video produced by Edison Motors Ltd, with a highlight around the 3-minute mark. An interesting article from Transport Topics discussing the strengths and opportunities of electric Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs), which are a critical element in fresh food distribution across the world.   TRUs are just one of many applications for our power-dense, high-efficiency and freewheeling electric motor, HDSRM150. What’s more, it’s rare-earth free, making it a sustainable solution for both trailer manufacturers and fleet operators.   The motor will be hitting the road later this year in our partner, SAF Holland’s, TRAKr power-generating e-Axle, which will be showcased at IAA in September.

Last Friday, the Advanced Electric Machines team embarked on a company social walk to our local landmark - Penshaw Monument!   It was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon amidst the scenic beauty of the North East (even if we are still wearing coats in July).
