Today was really special and thanks must go to Dr. Ola Elshurafa, SFHEA, Development Consultant, for arranging my visit and warm welcome onto Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University campus. The day started with a discussion of our long standing partnership and the success of Advance HE’s Strategic Membership; growth of Fellowship across all 4 categories (235 Fellows and counting!) and a presentation on PNU’s recently launched T&L strategy. Thank you also to the Vice Dean of Development, Dr Sarah Alshehri and Director of PETL Hiba Alomary, FHEA for their valuable contributions. It was a positive and productive meeting, reinforcing mutual respect and aspirations for the future… What made the visit that bit special was the tour of the library - and what an amazingly rich and wonderful resource. Standing 8 floors high it’s possibly one of the best libraries I’ve ever seen - world class! I witnessed the experience of the "robot arm" that processes book borrowing requests in action. I believe the only one in the GCC and only 3 worldwide! I was also impressed by the heritage manuscripts hall in the library, with scripts dating back hundreds of years. I could’ve spent hours in there! I said goodbye and left with a genuine respect for all the staff at PNU. They’re striving to create a distinct experience for all their students and a real sense of belonging - that often undefinable quality you get a sense of just being on campus. Can’t wait to visit again (I’ve been told I have to, when the temp is cooler 😀)…

I’d like to thank Sohar University for inviting me to attend and deliver a workshop at the 7th Teaching & Learning Conference: Digital Transformation and 21st Century Skills. The morning reception hosted by the senior leadership team gave me an opportunity to learn more about Sohar University, from its humble beginnings in a two storey building to an architecurally stunning campus (award winning for its design) with over 11,000 students! Hamza Edrees opened the conference welcoming delegates from over 20 countries. I presented a workshop anchored around our Student Success Framework for Embedding Employability. Not only was it well attended (over subscribed!) but everyone joined in the activities and there was a real energy in the room. Thank you to all who attended; we demonstrated active learning at its best! Zainab Al-Zaghir led closing remarks which included us celebrating Sohar’s recently awarded Fellows. Delighted that the plan is to build on this cohorts success and grow their numbers, underlining the value Sohar places on teaching excellence and recognition. Thank you again for a really well organised, interesting and thought provoking day. I look forward to continuing to help colleagues at Sohar make the most of Advance HE membership and associated benefits! We had the first session of our 2024 #UNSW Foundations of Learning and Teaching (FULT) program this week, with a fantastic turnout in person and online! A special thanks to our student presenters who were amazing! This is the first offering of the program since re-accreditation which aligns it to the new Advance HE 2023 Professional Standards Framework (PSF). What a team!
