We use the unique motivational power of AFC Wimbledon to effect positive change in our community
About us
AFC Wimbledon Foundation was formed in 2013 after a recognition that the ground-breaking creation, establishment and success of AFC Wimbledon Football Club was built on the energy and effort of its supporters. A founding principle of the football club was to be embedded in our community and to demonstrate that through targeted community-based activities for local people. For the first 10 years, we delivered this through a Community Football scheme and other initiatives addressing issues around disability and education. Following the football club's promotion to the English Football League in 2011 work was started to transform these initiatives into a community charity within the structure of the @efl-trust AFC Wimbledon Foundation aims to fulfil our local community's ever-changing needs by delivering targeted community-based activities. Our core projects focus on alleviating isolation, increasing employment opportunities, improving mental & physical health, strengthening aspirations, and creating greater community cohesion. Most of our outreach work uses the power of sport and exercise to achieve these goals, however, we also team up with local partners to provide education, employability and health-focused outreach work.

The last two weeks I have delivered our Mental Health Foundation Sport Trauma Informed Relationship training and Staff Wellbeing training in 4 awesome football clubs Everton in the Community Norwich City Football Club Community Sports Foundation Brighton and Hove Albion Foundation and AFC Wimbledon Foundation It’s been awesome to see the positive and preventative impact in four communities in the South, East and North West of England positively impacting mental health of people across the lifecourse. It’s been a joy as always to talk about really important life changing practices, understand evidence based theories & have some fun and competition too. A privilege to teach as well as learn from brilliant practitioners. This is especially encouraging in a week where we’ve produced a report highlighting that poor mental health remains the biggest contributor to overall population ill-health in the UK and the systemic issues around funding, social care delivery, workforce and capital are holding many Integrated Care Systems back. Football continues to meet many needs, providing funding, trusted people, fun and expertise where there’s real gaps. Well done The Premier League Charitable Fund and EFL in the Community and all your 100+ Club Community Organisations. You’re standing in the widening gap and changing lives. Report: Planning for Prevention: Unlocking the potential of Integrated Care Systems to create a mentally healthy society. MHF, 2024. See comment for link.

Great to work with deafPLUS and show some of their service users around Plough Lane yesterday. 🟡🔵
AFC Wimbledon Foundation x deafPLUS Chloe Turner and I lead a stadium tour at AFC Wimbledon. The group were from deafPLUS and they were a delight to take around the stadium! We had some dedicated Wimbledon fans and there were people in the group learning about our rich history for the first time. It is always a pleasure working with people in our community. 💙 💛

Brilliant work from Lana M. and Chloe Turner supporting our HAF delivery team to educate participants on Gender Stereotypes 👏 🟡🔵
EDI Session Yesterday Chloe Turner and I ran a Gender Stereotypes session at Holiday Camp. We spilt the group into two, explored what labels are put on boys and girls and the importance of language when communicating with others. The group were enthusiastic, passionate and it was really interesting hearing their opinions. There are still gender stereotypes that are ingrained amongst the young people, but we loved having open and honest conversations in the room. AFC Wimbledon Foundation 💙 💛
