Caring for Wales' Rivers

About us

Afonydd Cymru (AC) was formed in 2008 as an umbrella organisation to represent member Rivers Trusts across Wales. Currently the member Rivers Trusts within AC are: Clwyd, Conwy and Gwynedd Rivers Trust, Pembrokeshire Rivers Trust, South East Wales Rivers Trust, Teifi Rivers Trust, The Welsh Dee Trust, Severn Rivers Trust, Carmarthenshire Rivers Trust and The Wye & Usk Foundation. AC works in partnership with the Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales, Salmon & Trout Association, other organisations and local communities to bring about real and sustainable improvements to the aquatic environment in Wales. Our key aim is to "Assist Rivers Trusts to engage local communities and businesses to contribute to sustainable management of river catchments, in order to improve habitats and migratory fish stocks, while also promoting broader benefits to the wildlife associated with the River environment". AC is a limited company and registered charity. AC represents the member Trusts at a national level on Wales-wide issues; it also co-ordinates funding applications and provides training and expertise. Through the work of AC and the individual Rivers Trusts, opportunities are taken to improve community understanding of the river environment, the factors that affect it and its social and economic importance. Sustainable development – social, economic and environmental – and working in partnership to avoid duplication of effort are the founding principles of all the work of the Rivers Trusts.
