safe homes and better futures for lgbtq+ young people

About us

akt supports LGBTQ+ people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Did you know that 24% of young homeless people in the UK are LGBTQ+? LGBTQ+ people are much more likely to be made homeless because of their gender or sexual identity, and 78% of all of the young people that come to akt cite familial abuse and rejection ad the cause of their homelessness. This is why akt is so vital. We support young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates LGBTQ+ identities. 🌈 Donate to akt this Pride and give LGBTQ+ youth somewhere #safetobe. 🌈💖❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 The UK still isn’t safe for LGBTQ+ youth. 1 in 4 face violence and abuse at home before reaching out to us. Many are rejected from mainstream services before coming to akt for help. akt is the only national charity specialising in LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. We urgently need your support to meet the growing demand for our life-saving services. In London alone, our team is at capacity for almost half the year, leaving hundreds of young people without access to crucial support. Our expert caseworkers provide safe accommodation, education, training, healthcare, and more. A £100 donation today could provide 8 hours of specialist 1-1 support. 🌟 💖❤️🧡💛💚💙💜Please give today and help us find homes for LGBTQ+ youth where they are #safetobe. 💖❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gC2VxV9a

🌈 If akt didn’t exist, there would be many more young people too scared to come out, too scared to be their authentic selves, or living on the streets or somewhere hostile or unsafe. At akt, we believe no one should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Without your unwavering support over the last 35 years, we wouldn’t have been able to support over 50,000 LGBTQ+ young people and provide more than 250,000 nights off the street. You have made this possible, and together we can end LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. 🌈💖❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 We help young people in many different ways, and provide pathways into safe and secure accommodation, to ensure that young LGBTQ+ people can thrive: • Emergency housing and support • Finding safe and secure long term homes • Financial support (deposit and rent) • Independent living costs • Support with accessing benefits • Access to mental health support • Long term 1 to 1 case work • Self-advocacy • Support finding your community • Live chat and digital resources Please donate what you can today. Thank you! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eyKwzyrn

akt at Pride in London 2024. A very special and overwhelmingly joyful day for us all. But also noting that Pride began as a protest so wanting to strike the right balance of joy, being proud and outrage for more inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community. It was such an important day for us to be marching and all we stand for. LGBTQ+ youth still don't have safe homes, and we will continue to to fight to end LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. But let me bring it back now to the joyful part. Look at all the happy, gorgeous faces in these photos - colleagues, volunteers, corporate partners all coming together for akt. Thank you for your unwavering support: Blackstone, CityFibre, ESTELLA BARTLETT, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Morrisons, PHO Café, Pret A Manger, Vitesse PSP Limited and Marks and Spencer. You made a great day even better by empowering each other and raising awareness of the work that akt does. And thank you to Mark Kiley, and Dee Whitnell for marching with us, and James Klug, our photographer, for taking amazing photos of the day!

As it is coming to the end of Pride Month, we had a day to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and raise funds for akt - a charity supporting LGBTQ+ homeless youth. With a talk from Sybil Taunton - Head of DE&I at RICS and a Pride Quiz hosted on the roof, it was a great day to educate ourselves on the history of the LGBTQ+ community. You can learn more about our day here: https://lnkd.in/eiqXXw9A #pridemonth #property #realestate deverellsmith

LandAid works closely with the only national charity that supports young LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness, akt. A disproportionate number of young #LGBTQ+ people are facing homelessness due to a multitude of issues ranging from homophobia, transphobia, shame and societal stigma. As pride month reaches a close, we spoke to akt to explore how LandAid can continue provide grants, support and work to improve access to housing services in the face of these problems. 🌈 Check out the #Pride edition of our #InConversationWith series | https://lnkd.in/e2SBXM7m #CharityPartner
