In the last couple of years we have expanded our advocacy work and our proud of the key role we played in the recent NICE appraisals of new treatments. We know our advocacy work is not done. Whilst people with alopecia struggle with access to treatments and wigs, we will continue to do what we can to highlight that people with alopecia deserve better. We are a small charity but we will try to do what we can to ensure the voices of people with alopecia are heard. We Are Worth It 💙

"I found the Alopecia UK Facebook group and website, which were a godsend to me. It was a place where I felt understood. I could see people going through similar, if not exactly the same, experiences as me, and I felt part of a tribe, even if it was from the sidelines." Amanda has written a blog for us this September in which she describes 'The Rollercoaster of Alopecia'. Read Amanda's blog here: https://lnkd.in/eictcGpF

"Earlier this year, I was devastated to lose 65% of my hair! To gain some control of my condition, I decided to shave the little hair that I had remaining and start again. I want to dissociate the idea of shame that is attached to hair loss. So, I have chosen to wear and honor my unpredictable and unsymmetrical regrowth. It's a journey that requires patience and resilience. This stance has been very challenging at times. However, it has helped to raise awareness through conversation, spread knowledge and has provided an opportunity for people to act with compassion. If I can make just the slightest difference in supporting others going through this, then this is a small price to pay." Thanks Jagvinder for sharing your experience, and for being one of our Charity Champions this September, raising much needed awareness and funds for Alopecia UK 💙 #WeAreWorthIt #AlopeciaAwarenessMonth

Phoebe (pictured) is climbing one of the fells in the Lake District today to raise awareness and funds for Alopecia UK. Her family has had an Alopecia UK flag made for Phoebe to fly at the summit and we cannot wait to see the photo of her at the top! Thanks Phoebe! 💙 #WeAreWorthIt #AlopeciaAwarenessMonth

Great alopecia awareness from Laura Mathias 💙
This month is Alopecia Awareness Month, which aims to raise awareness of the autoimmune disease which can cause complete hair loss across the body. About 400,000 people across the UK can suffer from the condition at any point in their lives, data shows – but most cases are diagnosed before the age of 18. Alopecia occurs when a person’s immune system mistakes their hair follicles for a foreign body and attacks them, causing the hair to fall out. LinkedIn Top Voice Laura Mathias, who lives with the condition, says it can be debilitating when it happens – and it can make navigating the world of work particularly challenging. This is why it’s important to raise awareness about alopecia, she told LinkedIn News, so people understand it "isn’t a cosmetic issue" but a health and social one. What do you think brands and companies can do to make sure those who have visible differences feel included? Watch Laura's video below and share your thoughts in the comments. 🎞️ ✍🏽 Solange Uwimana Sources: The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/d2AqWhMT BBC News: https://lnkd.in/eGScABtP , https://lnkd.in/dSEzvpPN ABC News: https://lnkd.in/dVJt4Dbh
