Last month Fraser Morrison attended Demo North Summit in Luleå, Northern Sweden on behalf of Augusta & Co to see first-hand the impressive work being done to decarbonise what are notoriously carbon-intensive industries like steel manufacturing. The conference did an excellent job of outlining the opportunity of this transition for investors but also the significant challenges that face the region.    One of the core principles that has attracted the likes of H2GS, META / Cloudberry’s data centres, and the range of other green industries to the region is the stability of the grid and the supply of renewable energy. Looking forward a few years, these combined developments will put a huge strain on the grid and demand for clean electricity. So, what does this mean? Well alongside the civil infrastructure to house the population growth and the improvements to the transportation system, it will require the significant expansion of renewable generation in SE1 and SE2. H2 Green Steel is expected to consume 6-7% of all of Sweden’s current electricity consumption once its operating at full capacity, not to mention the rest of the green industrial cluster.
