Great to see the IFB encouraging customers and insurers to be alert to the issue of ghost broking. These so-called “brokers” are a million miles from the genuine brokers who offer critical advice to support customers. We would urge consumers to be wary of offers of cheap insurance on social media or messaging platforms. Last year Aviva identified fraud on more than 51,000 motor policy applications, up 64% on our 2022 policy fraud detection figures, so any steps that can help to reduce insurance fraud, in any guise, are to be applauded. #GhostBroker #GhostBroking #GhostBrokers #InsuranceFraud

There were a few notable announcements in yesterday’s King's Speech, but the one that caught our attention was the Pension Schemes Bill 👀 Emma Douglas, Director of Workplace Savings and Retirement said: “We welcome the Pension Schemes Bill, and the measures outlined will strengthen pensions investment and help savers manage their pensions more effectively. We’re pleased to see the commitment to have the Value for Money framework as a standardised test across defined contribution schemes because it’s important that whatever type of workplace pension scheme, it offers value to pension savers. We are also really pleased to see the focus on the full retirement journey because we must ensure savers can effectively manage their retirement funds. We are still keen to continue the success of auto enrolment (AE) and we hope for early consultation on how and when it is expanded because this is key to improving pension adequacy for future retirees. It is also good to see the small pots issue is being prioritised and we look forward to working through the detail. We look forward to working with the government on the next steps of the Bill and the pensions review.” #PensionSchemes #RetirementSaving

What’s the worst that can happen when playing tennis? 🎾 With Wimbledon starting this week we thought we’d take a look at our archive to see the types of tennis related claims our historic companies used to get. Well, alongside the usual slips and trips, including a clergyman who fell over a dog while playing tennis, we also found a claim for an AMPUTATED LEG in 1889! 😲 But it’s not all about tennis related injury claims. We also have alumni who played tennis at a very high level, including Sir Norman Brookes who won Wimbledon in 1907. Sir Norman was better known as ‘The Wizard (of Oz) and was chairman of the Australian board of directors at our heritage company North British and Mercantile. #Wimbledon
