Balfour Beatty has been featured in New Civil Engineer and The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) as we proudly announce the launch of our Mulberry & Allies Network. This initiative is dedicated to supporting veterans and leavers of the Armed Forces as they transition into the construction sector. Neil Dalton, our Defence Work Winning Director, and Tony Ellender, Learning and Development Manager, shared their insights, highlighting the invaluable skills ex-serviceman and woman bring to our industry and how other companies can support their veteran employees. We are committed to leveraging this untapped pool of talent and encourage others to join us in this mission. As the first steel structures are erected, we're delighted to see the progress being made in the construction of HMP Highland, Scotland's first net zero prison. ♻️ Scheduled for completion in 2026, the facility is designed to run off renewable energy sources such as ground source heat pumps, to align with the Scottish Government’s low carbon targets for the project. 🛠️ We will also utilise modular construction methods to preassemble the internal wall panels and perimeter walls offsite in a controlled factory environment, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
