A client will usually have in mind a key element they want to focus on when rebuilding or remodelling a property. It maybe to achieve an open plan living space, it maybe to feel more connected to the outside area or, in this case, it maybe to make the most of an outstanding view. If you are lucky enough to own a property with stunning views, then each glimpse of that view becomes a work art on the wall. A view creates an emotional connection and makes a property more desirable. A good view also increases a propertys marketability when coming to sell and sets it apart from the competition, giving it a competitive advantage and, in turn, a premium price tag. This project involved the development of a replacement dwelling on the site of a former single-storey property, with breathtaking views across the River Conwy. Due to the original property being carved into a rock ledge, our working area and property position was limited to that of the original dwelling. We, therefore, had to work with the landscape and produce innovative architectural details to find a deliverable solution. We added a cantilevered section out across the land that fell away, which provided additional floor area and a stairwell to the first floor, enabling us to create a 4 bedroom property with walk-in wardrobes and en-suite provision. It also gave us a structure to incorporate balconies from the living space to address the lack of garden amenity. Crisp, elegant, contemporary, and contrasting, the chosen design sits beautifully alongside the original home. We particularly love the addition of the outdoor gym that overlooks the tennis courts. A home gym requires thought into where the equipment is going and where you are going to want to exercise. The space has to be structurally sound, well ventilated, and complimentary to your homes existing aesthetic. MEET THE TEAM. Jake joined Base in June 2021, having gained a wide variety of sector experience over the previous seven years working within Manchester’s competitive and growing commercial scene and Cheshire’s flourishing private residential market. Jake has worked on an extensive portfolio of project typologies, from award-winning multi-million-pound developments working with some of the north west’s biggest developers on numerous high rise residential towers, university halls of residence, office space and leisure facilities, to collaborating with private homeowner clients on their high-end residential schemes such as barn conversions and new build homes. Jake studied at Northumbria University, where his creative, conceptual approach to design, with a minimalist and contemporary ethos was developed. This month, Base Cares will be donating £100 to the 2024 Red Lion Cycle Ride to Aberystwyth. This will be the teams 6th event but this one is in memory of two friends and previous ride participants, Gary Prinold and Gary Richards. The 2024 Red Lion Cycle Ride is raising money for Severn Hospice. Severn Hospice provides care for families within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales from the moment they're referred for as long as they need it. Last year the hospice cared for over 3,000 local families in their hour of need. Severn Hospice provide the highest standards of specialist palliative and specialist end-of-life care through a range of hospice services, ‘here and at home’, that recognise the individual, their loved ones and their preferences. There is no cost involved for service users or for their families, but it is not without cost and it can not happen without the help and support of fundraisers and donations made by people like us and you. Organiser Ian Bowman says 'Many who do our 100 mile bike ride to Aberystwyth have experienced first hand how wonderful the care is that the Hospice provide, at very difficult times.
