Unlocking Impact at Scale through Digital Innovation

African athletes* from 12 countries have won a total of 39 medals at the Paris 2024 Games (full list👇), with 9 countries striking gold 🥇: 🏅 Kenya 🇰🇪 leads by far with 4🥇 and 11 medals in total, with Beatrice CHEBET winning two 🥇 (5km and 10km). Algeria 🇩🇿 is the only other country to claim more than one 🥇 🏅 There's a good gender-balance overall with 7🥇 won by male athletes and 6🥇 won by female athletes (60%-40% if we consider all medals) 🏅 Athletics led the medal board with 8 out of 12 🥇; African athletes stroke gold in 6 sports in total (Athletics, Boxing, Swimming, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Modern Pentathlon) 🏅 There were quite a few firsts at the #Paris2024 Games: 🤸♂️ First ever African 🥇 in Gymnastics (Kaylia NEMOUR 🇩🇿) 🤺 First ever African 🥇 in Modern Pentathlon (Ahmed ELGENDY 🇪🇬) 🇧🇼 First ever 🥇 for Botswana (Letsile TEBOGO) 🇨🇻 First ever Olympic medal for Cabo Verde (David de PINA) And here for the final medal tally: 🇰🇪 Kenya - 🥇🥇🥇🥇 🥈🥈 🥉🥉🥉🥉🥉 🇩🇿 Algeria - 🥇🥇 🥉 🇿🇦 South Africa - 🥇 🥈🥈🥈 🥉🥉 🇪🇹 Ethiopia - 🥇 🥈🥈🥈 🇪🇬 Egypt - 🥇 🥈 🥉 🇹🇳 Tunisia - 🥇 🥈 🥉 🇧🇼 Botswana - 🥇 🥈 🇺🇬 Uganda - 🥇 🥈 🇲🇦 Morocco - 🥇 🥉 🇨🇻 Cabo Verde - 🥉 🇨🇮 Côte d'Ivoire - 🥉 🇿🇲 Zambia - 🥉 * The official medal board only takes into account the country athletes are representing at the Games. Many have observed that a lot of medallists not on the list are in fact dual nationals, were born in Africa or are of African descent.

LPG cookstoves can significantly reduce cooking carbon footprints, but just by how much? 👣 We recently asked you in a poll how many more carbon emissions traditional wood-burning cooking methods produce compared to LPG cookstoves. 🪵🔥 Over half of you answered correctly… The massively polluting and commonly used word-burning method has a 74% larger carbon footprint than LPG cooking, emphasising the environmental advantages of transitioning to more efficient cooking methods. 🍳 Clean cooking is also hugely important for enhancing health. Traditional methods carry grave health risks from inhaling smoke to the risk of burns and, for many millions of Africans, the most economical way of cooking their food is by burning wood and charcoal… That is why for us, LPG is the best choice for Africa today – both for the people living there, and for the climate! By using LPG cooking, Africa can fast-track its developmental goals and improve health outcomes without compromising on environmental sustainability. LPG for the win! 🤝 #Sustainability #CleanCooking #ClimateAction

Did you know Pay-as-you-go and African climate action are very closely related? 💭 We recently conducted a poll to find out what you believed is the percentage of global home solar kits that currently use a PAYGO payment model to operate? The answer…37%. 👏 PAYGO now represents 37% of global solar kit sales, according to Green Rising. Last year, 1.7 million new PAYGO kits were installed, avoiding more than 100 million metric tons of CO2! The PAYGO model is transforming lives by making clean energy and green tech, such as solar panels, clean cookstoves, irrigation systems and e-bikes, much more affordable. This approach, which overcomes high upfront costs and leverages mobile technology to ensure wider accessibility, has been attracting significant investment, driving sustainable development across the continent. 🌍 PAYGO is one of the many areas where Africa is at the forefront of innovation. Today we commend the fantastic work of Sarah Mitima, Marketing Supervisor at Bboxx DRC. 👏 Sarah has accomplished many things during her six years at Bboxx. Two of her proudest moments include the implementation of the Bboxx Cook project and the launch of the Mwinda kit in 2020. These projects were a huge success, and this was helped by the collaboration of team members, where they pursued effective logistical and communication plans. When discussing Bboxx’s commitment to sustainability and social impact, Sarah said: “Tastings and demonstrations of how to use our Cook kits in front of shops are among the actions that best illustrate our impact on the populations of Goma and Bukavu, for example.” ♻️ “We also set up educational sessions specifically for our customers. These sessions aimed to raise awareness about the impact of using gas kits on the conservation of our forests, although we also talked about our products. Today, the two cities are among the few in the DRC where people have a better understanding of the benefits of this cooking method.” Sarah appreciates that Bboxx is a workplace where there is a keen focus on results. Equally, there is always something new to learn; these aspects have contributed to Sarah’s professional and personal growth. Please join us in recognising the fantastic work that Sarah has done and continues to do at Bboxx! 🙌🎉 #EmployeeSpotlight Read Sarah's full testimonial here: https://lnkd.in/ghxuDzH7

By extending our retail footprint to Kumasi, we are signaling to all the good people of the Ashanti region that Bboxx is here to do business for good." We’d like to thank the Zayed Sustainability Prize for encouraging a culture of environmentalism and inspiring cross-border collaboration! 🌳 🏆 We were honoured to receive the prestigious #ZayedSustainabilityPrize in the Energy category back in 2019 in recognition of our innovative plug-and-play solar solutions which, at the time, connected 3,000 new people daily with clean, affordable electricity for the first time. The platform, established in 2008 by the UAE, aims to support innovative sustainable solutions and recognises groundbreaking innovation shaping a positive future. It is wonderful to see that, this year, the prize received an impressive 5,980 entries from 156 countries, 15% more submissions than last year! 🌍 We look forward to discovering who the finalists are this October. Let’s keep striving towards more sustainable solutions! 💪 Find out more in the comments!
