Judging presentations by young people is a unique and important responsibility. It’s more than evaluating content—it’s about nurturing talent, encouraging confidence, and inspiring the next generation of communicators and leaders. Today, I had the pleasure of serving on the judging panel for students participating in the Enactus programme. Enactus empowers university students and young people across the country to engage in social action and social enterprise, making a meaningful impact in their communities while developing vital skills. Witnessing the creativity, passion, and commitment of these young presenters was truly inspiring. Their innovative ideas and dedication to driving social change remind us of the incredible potential that lies within our youth. Congratulations to Team 5 for delivering the winning pitch. Congratulations to all the students opening their A-level results today. Many young people may now be weighing up their next steps or have already decided. For me, the choice was always to earn and learn rather than go to university, so for anyone who will be starting an apprenticeship programme later this year, you’re hopefully about to start a fantastic and fulfilling journey. Last week, we welcomed over 70 students to join us for our Explore BDO and Black Heritage insight programmes, a chance to see what life at BDO could be like for post-16 and university students. This programme has continued to grow since its launch in 2021, and I’m incredibly proud of the impact it continues to have. A big thanks to all those who work hard to make the programmes possible and to the students who joined us. I am also delighted to announce that BDO has ranked within the top 15 of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers for 2024.
