Did you know that our students run their own business? 🛒 The Beechwood Bits and Bobs shop aims to help our students learn about enterprise and develop their employability skills through hands on experience of operating a business. The shop is stocked with a diverse range of fun and creative items handmade by our students, and the students also manage all of the shops daily operations like inventory management, shipping orders, and customer service. While our students enjoy a well-deserved break, we’ll be sharing some fun activities from this term that you can try at home – today’s activity is making your own fresh fruit ice lollies! 🍧 This simple activity is great for practising skills in the kitchen, and helps our students understand how they can make their favourite treats more balanced and nutritious. All you need is some ice lolly moulds, your fruits of choice, and your favourite fruity drink. Chop your fruit and add it to your moulds, before pouring in your chosen drink. Leave them in the freezer until solid, and enjoy! While you’re doing this activity, talk through your choices for ingredients and discuss the benefits of incorporating fruits and vegetables into a balanced diet. You can also use this activity to discuss food hygiene, and how we should use kitchen tools safely and responsibly. #ALN #Autism

Try this easy Art Therapy activity at home this Summer break 🎨 Egg smashing is an excellent therapeutic activity, and it’s easy (and fun) to do. Simply write down your negative emotions and feelings on the egg shells, and smash them outside to help you let go and release those feelings. The smashed eggs are also a great nutritious addition to your compost!

There are lots of different skills you need to learn if you want to run your own business – including marketing and advertising 📢 Our Group 4 students have done a brilliant job setting up the Sensory Sips Coffee Shop this year, and they have been promoting their business to staff and fellow students across the college with free samples and leaflets that they created in class. We certainly have some budding entrepreneurs at Beechwood College, and we can’t wait to see their future business ventures! #ALN #Autism

We have been developing a new Eco Club this year, and this week our Student Council members met to discuss how creating a dedicated environment zone would benefit students and the campus. While they discussed everything they’d like to achieve with this new project, the students got stuck in with some garden maintenance and helped water the plants, mow the lawn, and plant some new seeds! #ALN #Autism
