🐘 We all need this reminder from our wildlife queen and project manager Connie Needham 💚 It’s really easy to disengage and have wildlife protection be pretty low on our priority list. Because really, why does losing a species even matter? here are a few why's from our tribe 🌍 ⭐ Protecting wildlife is at the heart of everything 🌍 Climate protection Wildlife plays a crucial role in keeping ecosystems healthy, and these healthy ecosystems help fight climate change. For example, elephants, contribute to carbon sequestration by spreading seeds and creating pathways that promote plant growth. 🌱 🫶🏼 Human survival Over 70% of emerging human diseases are zoonotic (they are transmitted from animals). Protecting wildlife habitats reduces the chances of these diseases jumping to humans. 🚸 🍃 Ecosystem balance Pollinators like bees are critical for crop production, apex predators maintain the health of prey populations. Losing just a single species can have a domino effect, leading to the collapse of entire ecosystems. 🐝 🔒 Global security Environmental degradation and biodiversity loss can exacerbate conflicts over resources such as water, food, and arable land, potentially leading to instability and displacement of people. Protecting wildlife and natural ecosystems can help lessen these conflicts by maintaining balance and availability of resources. 🌳 It’s not just about wanting these animals around (which IS a great reason to protect them).
