Lancashire County Council has appointed a new director of environment and planning. Jonathan Edwards is expected to join the team in November and is currently working as director of housing and deputy chief executive at the government-owned Salix Finance. He’s currently responsible for shaping and delivering policy on behalf of the Department of Energy, Security and Net Zero. Jonathan also has a history of working in local government where he served as a director at St Helens Borough Council. He said: “I am excited to be joining the team in November and look forward to working with colleagues across the council in the months ahead. It feels like a great time to be joining the team. "I relish the opportunity to work with partners and key stakeholders on all of the exciting and ambitious things going on in Lancashire. "I am proud to be given the opportunity to become the new Director of Environment and Planning and hope to bring energy, ideas and a real focus on delivery for our residents and partners.” Jonathan will take over from the current Director of Environment and Planning, Andrew Mullaney, who is retiring after more than 34 years of service with the county council.

A new national charity has awarded a grant of £1,375 to the team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals for its Children’s Fund. Wonder Wards has donated money to help it buy and install another LED picture ceiling panel in the Children’s Ward at the Royal Preston Hospital. The charity team wants the new panel for the ward’s treatment room. They have recently been able to fund the kitting out of seven bays on the children’s ward with picture ceiling panels. Rebecca Arestidou, the Trust, grant, fundraising impact and project officer said: “LED picture ceiling panels have been proven to reduce anxiety and pain during clinical procedures by distracting children, who can sometimes become distressed. “They give young patients something positive to focus on, helping to create a calm and tranquil environment and a better treatment experience all round. “Our bay panels were bought and fitted as a Children’s Fund gift by construction company DD Porter, which had been working at the Royal Preston Hospital, and now this new grant from Wonder Wards puts us well on our way towards being able to afford this further panel for the treatment room. “We are very grateful to Wonder Wards and its founder Leigh Gilles, who drove up from the charity’s base in Wiltshire to personally present us with the grant.”
