Student at University of Bristol | Festival of Nature Youth Pannelist 2024 | Ecology and Conservation Enthusiast

In February 2024 I was selected to be a part of the Festival of Nature Youth Pannel. The Festival of Nature, held in June in both Bristol and Bath, is a celebration of sustainability, the natural world and climate resilience. This was followed by 6 months of event planning, meetings and incredible opportunities to work with talented individuals. The main goal for this pannel was to tackle the attendance gap in young people between the ages of 16-24 at the Festival. It has been a delightful and productive experience, ultimately concluding with two events organised. ☀️ Our first event was an Art, Creative Writing and Photography competition, spotlighting The Natural World. The top entries were judged by experts in the field, George Cook and Jasmine Isa Quershi.📷🦚 The second event, Campfire Conversations, was centered around eco-anxiety and young people’s experience with climate action. This was held at Grow Wilder, facillitated by speakers from Force of Nature and UK Youth for Nature. 🏕️🌎 I am grateful to have worked with the Festival of Nature and to learn from like-minded creatives in the industry. Thank you to our co-ordinator Connor Davies and the The Natural History Consortium team! Keep an eye out for this year’s chance to join the Youth Pannel!

    Community Radio Environment Network

And so we begin again! CREN, the Community Radio Environment Network, is gearing up for this year's Our Earth Week, running at the same time as the COP talks (from 11th-17th November). OEW is a climate and nature themed week on community radio stations across the UK. The theme this year is The Sound of the Wild, and we are gathering all sorts of wonderful audio and music on this incredibly broad and complex subject to keep our listeners entranced, informed and hopefully inspired to take action, no matter how small. One thing which proved very popular last year were messages from organisations and individuals, to our listeners. Fairly short and sweet, anywhere between 1-4 minutes long. It's your chance to tell our listeners all about you, and what you do. Last year we heard from groups like RSPB and WWF, Bristol Energy Cooperative, River Action, Transition Together, Sortition Foundation, Stop Ecocide, and many more, including one on activism from Caroline Dennett, a series of pieces on eco anxiety by Linda Aspey, earthly cycles from the Almanac by Lia Leendertz, and help on how to decrease your carbon emissions from Chloe Naldrett. Your messages will go out on community radio stations all across the country. If you'd like to send out a message about your work to our listeners this year then please let me know. If you work with at the intersection of nature and music or sound we are especially keen to hear from you! Another element we are keen on nurturing is a close connection with the COP talks and what is going on there. If you are going to COP and would like to pass on news and insights for us to pass onto our listeners, then again, please do get in touch. PS: many thanks to Andy Squiff for providing OEW once more with our logo!
