We are sharing photography of our recently completed project, Mall of Sfax, envisioned as the centrepiece of a major urban regeneration project in one of North Africa’s largest port cities. Designed as a serene oasis in the desert, the mall is centred around a striking linear lake that spans the entire façade. This tranquil setting is enhanced by restaurants and terraces, shaded by an expansive palm tree-shaped pergola. The main building features two levels, housing over 140 units, including a destination food hall and a Carrefour hypermarket. We're highlighting Bandar Malaysia , a super-connected mixed-use development recently shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Awards 2024 in the Masterplanning Future Projects category. This charrette offers architecture students from around the world an exceptional platform to present their innovative concepts live to WAF attendees and a panel of expert judges. Aligned with this year's WAF conference theme, ‘Tomorrow’, the charrette will delve into the evolving future of the built environment. With the Olympics underway in Paris, we are taking a look back at our past project, the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. Designed in collaboration with BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), the arena was a centrepiece venue for the inaugural European Games in 2015 and hosted the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in 2022. The arena is one of the few bespoke gymnastics venues in the world designed for all gymnastic disciplines and features flexible design elements to accommodate other event types. It features retractable and movable seating, with a maximum occupancy of up to 9,000 spectators. The facility includes a training hall for the national Azerbaijani gymnastics team, as well as accommodation, physiotherapy, and medical suites. The shading strips encircling the structure reference rhythmic gymnasts, featuring three ribbon louvers that control daylight and solar gain while providing external views. At night, dynamic lighting makes the arena appear as three ribbons fluttering over a stone plinth, with the lighting scheme also enabling the projection of displays and dynamic imagery. Broadway Malyan supported a major financial services client in transforming its European office portfolio to adapt to evolving workstyles. Guided by the client's in-house workplace philosophy, we developed a series of new office spaces inspired by their unique locations. Our client's Paris office occupies three floors in the Étoile Building, featuring circular atria and glazed courts that have informed the design approach. These elements are incorporated to create harmony between the interior and exterior spaces. The interiors draw inspiration from the sophistication and refinement of one of Paris’s most celebrated districts. Their Stockholm office was inspired by the local context, emphasising the use of locally sourced materials, including lamps and acoustic panels made in Sweden from wheat pulp. Complementing the natural tones are splashes of colour that enhance the Scandinavian style, characterised by functionality, simplicity and beauty. “Gaining a deep understanding of our client’s cultural DNA has been central to the creative process and informing our design approach.
