Great news 🎉 - Final sign off on EIS/VCT to 2035 ✅ “Thousands of entrepreneurs and start-ups are set to benefit from the extension of two leading government investment schemes to help them grow the economy and rebuild Britain.” - 📣 HM Treasury announced today. The UK Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Venture Capital Trust (VCT) schemes have been pivotal in encouraging #privateequity and #venturecapital investment in target companies through tax incentives. This extension will provide certainty for investors and the innovative small and medium-sized businesses they invest in across the UK’s nations and regions. The extension of these schemes was recommended to the new Government in the BVCA’s Manifesto for Growth, published earlier this year following calls made in recent budget submissions. 💬 Commenting on the announcement, BVCA’s Michael Moore said: “It is excellent news that the government is moving so quickly. This means that investors can now focus on what they do best, investing, safe in the knowledge that these schemes now have the long-term security needed to drive investor confidence. “The BVCA has long advocated for this move as these schemes play a vital role in supporting early-stage companies that have the highest growth potential and crowding in further investment through the growth cycle. “As the third largest VC market in the world, the UK has proven the success of EIS and VCT, and with many jurisdictions now following our lead, it is vital that the UK retains its competitive edge in a competitive world and this move is a very positive step in that direction.” Read the full announcement here - https://lnkd.in/ge4uAmTt

The BVCA invites interested parties to share their feedback and insights as the consultation reviews both the scope and requirements of the Guidelines, with the aim of introducing refreshed reporting requirements for January 2025. The consultation will run until 30th September, comments can be submitted to [email protected] Learn more about the Walker Guidelines Refresh here - https://lnkd.in/eGTtENbJ

"We are in a competitive international situation. The capital and the people need to be attracted to and retained in the UK." — 🎙️ Michael Moore, BVCA Chief Executive. The BVCA’s Michael Moore discussed the Government's call for evidence on carried interest on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme this morning (from 23.55), where he underlined the necessity of an internationally competitive tax environment for #privateequity and #venturecapital if the industry is to maintain its critical role in supporting the UK’s long-term economic growth. 💼 The industry backs 2.2 million jobs in the businesses they support and attracts significant international investment into the UK. 📊 In 2023, businesses backed by private capital directly generated £137bn of GDP, which represents 6% of the UK’s total GDP. The BVCA will publish its response to the consultation on its website once the consultation closes. Listen to the interview here (from 23.55) - https://lnkd.in/dUcjAEq

In 2023 alone, the East Midlands received £423 million of private capital investment, directly supporting over 100,000 jobs in the region. Newly elected Labour MP for Northampton South, Mike Reader, positively reflects on a recent visit to James & James Global Fulfilment, a #privateequity supported businesses in his constituency: "I really enjoyed my recent visit to J&J Global Fulfilment, a pioneering business in the fulfilment sector. During my visit, I had an opportunity to see how the company is creating jobs in Northampton as well as supporting a variety of local causes. I also saw how the backing of private equity firm LDC has been instrumental to the company's remarkable growth”. Utilising an innovative and customer-centric approach to fulfilment, J&J have helped to deliver almost 30 million packages globally. Since LDC's investment in 2020, J&J have been on a strong growth trajectory and are investing more than ever in in-house tech. The BVCA was delighted to facilitate the visit, where LDC's investment in J&J brings to life the #privatecapital industry's role as partners for growth. 📢The BVCA is pleased to announce that Emma Reynolds will be at the #BVCASummit2024. The newly appointed Minister for Pensions within the Treasury and Department for Work and Pensions, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at the UK Pensions Summit on 11 September. The Minister will have an opportunity to address the importance of broadening UK pension fund access to private capital, and the Labour Government's ambitions for fostering economic growth and the role that private equity and venture capital can play in achieving this. With the UK receiving 16 times more investment into its private capital and thriving businesses from global pension funds than from UK pension investors, we have a significant opportunity to work together to boost UK pension fund investments into exiting UK businesses, and ensuring that UK retirement savers can enjoy the same high levels of returns that their US, Canadian and Australian counterparts do. The Pensions Summit will see representatives of the venture capital and growth equity industries, with representatives of the UK pensions sector coming together to report on the findings of the Pensions and Private Capital Expert Panel, whilst discussing new and innovative strategies to unlocking funds that can drive economic growth. 📣 #VentureCapital update ❗ Yesterday, the European Commission confirmed that they will not object to the extension of the sunset clause for the UK Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Venture Capital Trust (VCT) scheme. The schemes can now be extended to 2035. This is a welcome step forward for the #venture community and will ensure that the UK remains one of the best places in the world to start and grow a business. The BVCA now urges the Government to act on this to confirm the extension as soon as possible. For more information, contact the BVCA's Head of Venture Capital, Chris Elphick.
