We campaign to make sustainable transport available to all and encourage its use.
About us
Transport is at the heart of our communities. It connects people to jobs, education, public services, shops, leisure activities, and with other people. It’s key to moving goods to where they are needed. Our vision is for all communities to have access to high quality, sustainable transport that meets their needs, improves quality of life and protects the environment.

Average spend on transport by region Spend on transport tends to rise with income. The one exception is London. The average household in London spends 12% of their expenditure on transport compared to 16% in the South East. The table shows average weekly spend per person on all transport and on car/vans. London and the North East spend markedly less on motoring and transport in total than other regions. On average a person in London spends £14 a week less on transport than someone living in the South East. This highlights the benefit of living in a high density urban area. However, there is a clear trade off between transport and housing. Households in rural areas spend a third more on transport than those in urban areas but 20% less on housing. The difference is so great that transport is the biggest single expenditure item for those in rural areas while housing is the biggest in urban areas. #Jacobseconomics Average weekly spend per person on transport in total and on motoring by region

New blog! ✍️ The Restoring Your Railway Fund was a step towards rectifying the damaging effects of the Beeching cuts which saw over 2,000 train stations close. But now the Government plan to re-open key stations.... has been cut. What now? https://lnkd.in/eKG2VTKC

Fantastic to be in Bradford this morning to hear the recommendations from the Rail and Urban Transport review — which calls for big, bold ideas on modal shift, infrastructure delivery and public transport. The report, prepared by Arup, Urban Transport Group and The Northern Powerhouse Partnership is a fascinating insight on where we’re falling down, and how we can deliver for the future. Louise Haigh, alongside Andy Burnham and Tracy Brabin, talked so enthusiastically about public transport and what it can deliver. Campaign for Better Transport were delighted to give evidence, and see a few of our thoughts outlined in the report!

Encouraging recommendations in this review and a bold vision for how the new Government could expand public transport. We especially welcome the recommendations for ambitious targets to increase public transport journeys and get the necessary infrastructure built-something we have long called for.
Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng today announced the publication of the Rail and Urban Transport Review - an ambitious report setting out a bold vision and plan for the future of the UK's rail and urban transport infrastructure. We were pleased to provide secretariat support for the review, alongside expertise and thought leadership from Arup. https://lnkd.in/eg6piBqK

What a great moment for Campaign for Better Transport to be featured in The Athletic on our latest campaign - 'Black Boot' - which aims to put pressure on Premier League teams to use the train and the coach to travel between games, rather than travelling by air. Our amazing partners Leith, Football For Future and Fossil Free Football have made this all possible. Check out the webpage: https://blackboot.net/

A new Premier League trophy will be up for grabs this season. We’ve worked with Campaign for Better Transport and Fossil Free Football to create The Black Boot. The prize will be awarded for ‘outstanding contributions to football’s carbon footprint’, and comes after Premier League clubs were found to have flown to hundreds of domestic away games. You can watch the film here - https://lnkd.in/gGdgn-mb And keep updated with who picks up the award at blackboot.net and @BlackBootTrophy on X.
