About us
With over 30,000 carers currently registered with the charity, we run support groups, a helpline, assist carers access equipment to support their caring role or provide funds so that carers can do something for themselves. We can also help carers access wellbeing support and have teams in all the of the major hospitals in West Sussex, as well as East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. With over 95 members of staff and over 40 volunteers, as well as a dedicated team of Trustees, Carers Support is committed to ensuring carers are recognised and listened to. Carers save the UK economy more than £150 billion across England and Wales every year. Carers Support West Sussex values diversity. We recognise that carers, staff, volunteers and partners with different backgrounds, skills, attitudes and experiences can help to shape how our organisation works by contributing fresh ideas, valuable insights and new perceptions. Carers Support West Sussex already offers its employees 7 days paid (pro rata) carers leave. As we fully support the notion as well as being a very carer friendly employer. We hope you will join us in supporting the Carers UK campaign to enable others access to paid carer's leave on a non-statutory basis.
Our new report calling for the introduction of a new right to paid Carer’s Leave shines a light on some of the forward thinking and carer-friendly employers in the UK who already provide their employees with access to paid Carer’s Leave on a non-statutory basis. These employers say doing so brings significant economic and cultural benefits to their organisations, as well as to their employees. Evidence shows that the impact of increased staff turnover, unplanned absences, and additional stress that comes when employees aren’t supported to juggle work and care could be costing UK businesses over £3.5 billion every year. We are calling for other organisations to stand with us in calling for a new right to paid Carer’s Leave. In West Sussex, this scheme is distributed by councils, local Citizens Advice offices, Carer Support West Sussex and is a grant. Be wary of unknown numbers and you should only share your information with trusted organisations.
