Fundraising

Cerebral Palsy Cymru is a national centre of excellence in Wales for babies and children who have cerebral palsy.

About us

Cerebral Palsy Cymru is Wales’ leading charity for babies and children who have cerebral palsy. We provide specialist therapy and support to families and children across Wales living with cerebral palsy. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of all children in Wales living with cerebral palsy. At Cerebral Palsy Cymru, we focus on the ability, not the disability. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in children in the world, and it is estimated that every 5 days, a baby is born in Wales who will have the condition. As a registered charity, we need to raise £1.5M every year to continue to provide our current level of service. 80% of this total comes from fundraising activities such as regular donations, gifts in wills, fundraising events and the income from our charity shops. We know that the more money we raise, the more families and children we can see. Because we know – we can make a life-changing difference.

July marks Disability Pride Month! You may be familiar with the Disability Pride Flag, but do you know what the different colours represent? ❤️ Red represents physical disabilities. 💛 Gold represents neurodiversity. 🤍 White stands for non-visible and undiagnosed disabilities. 💙 Blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities. 💚 Green stands for sensory disabilities. 🖤 The black background of the flag commemorates and mourns disabled people who’ve died due to ableism, violence, negligence, suicide and illness.

⭐️ Fundraising Friday ⭐️ We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Stephen Bailey who raised an amazing £1,600 by completing a sponsored silence at work. His colleagues and friends at ACT Training Ltd were very generous with their donations and Stephen managed to successfully stay quiet for 4 hours! 🤐 Stephen was thrilled with the amount of money he managed to raise and is already thinking about next years fundraiser! 🤫

On Tuesday, we welcomed Llanishen Rotary Club to our children's centre to see our Eye Gaze system in action. Llanishen Rotary Club kindly gifted this eye gaze system to us earlier this year, and it will make a huge difference to the children attending our children's centre who have more complex needs. "Some children who attend our children's centre use their eyes as the most effective way to communicate" explains Helen, our Speech & Language Therapist. "However this is a skill which requires practise. The provision of the eye gaze unit has been very much welcomed to replace our outdated machines. The iPad and eye gaze camera is much more portable than our old systems and it's portable so it can be used in our children's centre or taken on outreach to support children in single consultation blocks. Thank you Llanishen Rotary Club for helping us give these children a voice."
