Happy to share a recent paper with Dr Raymond Pang, Associate Fellow UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI): "Financial Network Valuation under Climate Transition Risk." This paper is part of our Environmental Stress Testing and Scenarios project. In this paper, we develop a network valuation model to consider financial contagion - i.e., propagation of losses in an interconnected financial system - under climate transition risk, with implications for climate stress tests investigating financial stability. We apply this model to Asian countries and find that, while total losses are highest for financial firms in larger economies (e.g., China), on average financial firms in smaller economies are more vulnerable (e.g., Thailand), demonstrating the spillover effects between large and small economies. We then examine losses to financial firms under different network densities and find that the size and range of losses are highest in sparse networks (i.e., densities ~10%), demonstrating the extent of uncertainty to financial firms from the network and transition scenarios. #climaterisk #transitionrisk #networkeffects #financialcontagion #asia #ngfs #spillovereffects #uncertainty #stresstesting #regulation

Our CGFI Leeds Innovation Hub team hosted a session at the Building Societies Association Annual Conference in June, bringing together industry experts and academics to discuss the challenges posed by physical climate risks and the role of climate risk analytics for #buildingsocieties.   Catch up on the session in our writeup below.
