You know the terms: Major donor, lapsed/LYBNT/SYBNT, recurring/monthly/sustainer donor, sponsor, funder, grantor... ...the list goes on and, unfortunately, so often does our way of thinking about our current and prospective donors. We think about them in terms of how they give and, in doing so, miss the point of WHY they give. What if, instead, we thought about them in terms of their interests and motivations? What drew them to our mission? Why do they care about our work? What does their connection with us mean to them? If you want a sustainable #fundraising strategy, you need to think about your supporters as people and not simply their #philanthropic capacity or donation history. Tailored engagement to your donors' 'why' creates stronger relationships. It's important to do in general, and even more so when you're fundraising internationally and do not have the benefit of proximity to stay top of mind with your donors. With so much interest in fundraising from Asia, we have been eagerly reading the newly published Doing Good Index 2024. This report offers a fascinating deep-dive into digital technology, funding landscapes, regulatory challenges, and the essential role of trust and governance within Social Delivery Organizations (SDOs) in Asia.
