We’re really proud to share that our Chapel Down Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvée 2016 has been named as the Top Sparkling Wine in England at the WineGB Awards today!  Our Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvée was awarded an astounding four trophies in total, including ‘Best Prestige Cuvée’ and ‘Supreme Champion’ – the highest prize given at the ceremony. And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, our Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2021 received a further three trophies; ‘Best Chardonnay’, ‘Top Still Wine’, and ‘Best Sustainable Wine’.  On receiving the ‘Supreme Champion’ trophy at the Wine GB Awards Ceremony earlier today, our Down Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, said: “We’re truly delighted to win such an amazing award. When we planted Kit’s Coty vineyard we only dreamed of the quality it could produce and revealing this has been one of the joys of being a part of the birth of a brand new wine region. This accolade is a testament to the Kent Downs and the team at Chapel Down who maximise the potential of this amazing terroir through their hard work and dedication.” Today is a really proud day for all of us – and a day to celebrate the inspiring work being done across our wine industry in the UK. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes us all next! #WineGB #Awards #EnglishWine #EnglishSparklingWine #BestCuvee  Nicola Bates Phoebe French Wine & Spirit Education Trust Miles Beale Wine Garden of England Jo Ginn Giles James Dan Farrell-Wright Rebecca Palmer Matthew Horsley Rebecca Mitchell DipWSET

Amidst all the excitement and drama of the weekend, we were delighted to receive two wonderful pieces of press for our Chapel Down Rosé. Recommended by Jane Macquitty for The Times article 'Best English Wine: The bottles really worth buying', our sparkling Rosé was described as "gorgeous... tangy, smoky, raspberry-stashed" and "every bit as good as top drawer pink Champagne". Meanwhile Helena Nicklin featured Chapel Down Rosé in her Daily Mail article on 'Bubbles to make your summer sparkle'. Helena said the wine is "textured, silky and slips down beautifully". With Chapel Down Rosé recently being named as officially England's best sparkling Rosé in the prestigious Decanter awards, if you haven't tried it yet, it's time to get acquainted! We're really excited to share the launch of our Chapel Down Flint Dry 2023. A wonderful introduction to the quite delicious world of English still wines, Flint Dry 2023 is a highly aromatic wine characterised by its Chardonnay and Bacchus-dominant blend. The 2023 vintage benefits from a slightly higher percentage of aromatic grape varieties including Bacchus (27%), plus Siegerrebe, Reichensteiner and Schonburger. The resulting wine boasts appealing apple and citrus notes with a distinctly floral character. On the palate there's elderflower, lychee and a crisp, refreshing acidity. Pair Flint Dry 2023 with a barbecue on a long summer's day, or with grilled seafood for a meal you'll come back to time and time again. We’re in the midst of a crucial and wonderful part of the grape-growing cycle: flowering. As our Head of Viticulture Richard Lewis explains: “Flowering of the vines typically occurs from mid-June to early July. Like so many other aspects of vine growth it is very weather dependant – not just the timing of it but also how successful the pollination and fruit-set process is. Therefore, weather at flowering has a huge impact on our potential yields for the season.” Seeing the vines in action after the winter period is really inspiring, it has thinking about the potential of what is to come 💚 #Viticulture #Vineyard

Truly a week to remember. Our first year as the Official English Sparkling Wine of Royal Ascot was one we’ll be looking back on for a long time. Not only were our award-winning wines featured in the main bars, hospitality, and boxes, but we also unveiled the Yeats Bar by Chapel Down – Ascot's first-ever English sparkling wine bar, which proved a hit to consumers searching for A Fresher Way To Celebrate Royal Ascot Week. Whether welcoming new faces to the bar, enjoying the coverage we gained from ITV racing and Sky Sports, taking in the race days or admiring some truly excellent outfits, Royal Ascot was a joy from start to finish.

We’re just about getting our breath back! As #EnglishWineWeek draws towards a close, we’re reflecting on an incredible week that has included some real highlights for all of us at Chapel Down. At our brand home in Tenterden we have been offering complimentary tastings at the cellar door all week and the long summer evenings have led to some very happy faces from visitors. On Tuesday, we marked our inaugural year as the Official English Sparkling Wine of the world’s most famous race meeting with the launch of our Chapel Down bar at Royal Ascot. Our bar has hosted some of the 250,000 spectators due this week, who have also been able to enjoy our award-winning sparkling wines in all the main bars across the racecourse. Sky Sports News even interviewed our CEO, Andrew Carter, live from the racecourse. On Wednesday, our sparkling Rosé won a prestigious accolade at this year’s Decanter World Wine awards. Hailed as ‘Best in Show’, the highest handed out by Decanter – over and above Silver, Gold and Platinum medals – it is reserved for what the judges regard as the 50 very best wines from around the world. We were thrilled when Jane MacQuitty wrote in The Times that “Chapel Down deserves to fizz with pride” about the award. On Thursday, we picked up 13 medals at this year’s WineGB Awards, including 4 Gold medals for our Chapel Down Grand Reserve 2018 and Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvee 2017 sparkling wines, and for our Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2021 and Kit’s Coty Bacchus 2021 still wines. And we’ve still got the weekend to celebrate the rest of EnglishWineWeek and to reflect on just how far English wine has come in a relatively short period of time. Here’s to a week to remember, a summer to look forward to, but most of all to English wine!
