CILIP Conference 2024 has finished! Day 2 featured more thought provoking speeches, workshops and discussions that covered the latest topics in the sector, including a lunchtime conversation and book signing with author Tamye Huf. The day ended with a thought-provoking panel discussion on inclusive collections, and CILIP Louis finished the conference with a simple message: "We are stronger together as a community." Here's to next year's conference! #CILIPConf24

A summary of just a few of the sessions at CILIP Conference 2024 The first day of CILIP Conference 2024 began with a thought-provoking keynote address from PEN’s Daniel Gorman, about libraries as bastions of human rights and freedom of expression, and the heroic work of librarians in times of conflict and political polarisation. In the first stream, a panel presentation on AI at the British Library, Manchester University Library and the IIIAF discussed whether we have reached maximum hype with AI, and the potential and risks for libraries and archives to open up their collections with this new technology. The knowledge and information management stream for the second session was a café workshop that brought together small groups of cross sector professionals to discuss what makes a good leader. Stijn Hooren’s lunchtime keynote covered the rise of truth decay in Europe and America, and highlighted libraries’ physical spaces as key to places for open discussion. After lunch, in Collections Go Green, Kirsty Shankland from Wright and Wright architects talked delegates through three new libraries that were built to meet net zero and sustainable design targets. In one of the final sessions, Ben Lee from Shared Intelligence, talked about future literacy and the Come Rain or Shine report that CILIP produced earlier this year, to give delegates an overview of how this vitally important skill can help inform resiliency and decision-making for libraries. Looking forward to day 2 #CILIPConf24

For the next two days #CILIPConf24 will be a place of inspiration, networking and ‘top of mind’ issues, with a focus on intellectual freedom and its associated themes of freedom of expression, censorship and information rights.
