City Plan 2040 will: - Power a growing, vibrant and competitive economy, with over 1.2m sqm of additional office floorspace delivered by 2040; - Transform the Square Mile into a 7-day-a-week cultural and leisure destination for everyone; - Ensure the City is a highly sustainable place to do business, with a net zero Square Mile by 2040; - Create an inclusive, accessible and healthy Square Mile where everyone feels welcome; and - Celebrate local heritage while re-shaping those parts of the City that have the most potential for growth and regeneration. Congratulations to everyone who put 'Pepys Day' in their diaries and booked a place on the sold-out City of London Guide tours on 6 September, during which they will hear about Samuel Pepys’ personal life, career, and key moments about the Great Fire of London, which he wrote about in his celebrated Diary. Pepys witnessed and recorded the events of that extraordinary week in 1666. The fire started on 2nd September and was extinguished on 6th September. Guildhall Art Gallery and Roman Amphitheatre, The London Archives, The Mansion House, Great Hall at Guildhall, Billingsgate Roman House and Baths, and the #Barbican Estate are among the City Corporation-owned buildings and historic venues opening their doors for the #OpenHouseFestival next month. Featuring over 70 activities to see and do in the City, including open access to a wide range of ancient and modern buildings, Open House Festival is billed as an annual celebration of the capital’s buildings, architecture, and neighbourhoods. The Festival will take place across two weekends: Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September, and Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. All events are FREE - with some requiring advance booking. The “rags to riches” story of Richard Whittington’s life, the legendary fire that tore through London, and the genius who designed an architectural icon feature in the new events programme at the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall Library. The self-styled ‘Library of London’s History’ has released its September to December events programme, which includes a wide range of talks and walks and in particular, its ‘Whittington, The Man, The Myth, and the Cat’ exhibition, which opens on 7 October and tells the story of the celebrated merchant, politician, and philanthropist. Other highlights include talks about whether art can change the world, and how mudlarks can find a wide range of historical (and sometimes, very strange) objects on the Thames foreshore; and a walking tour about what you can discover from looking up at buildings in the capital, rather than always keeping your eyes on the pavement. #DestinationCity https://lnkd.in/e_U8NCQa
