Electromagnetic scale control technology which continuously protects wells and equipment without intervention.

About us

ClearWELL provides a long-term, electromagnetic scale control solution for oil and gas and geothermal wells. Our signalling unit is connected to your surface equipment, avoiding the need for well intervention. It can be left in-situ over the life of the well to guard against scale deposition. As well as protecting the system pipelines and tubulars, it also protects downhole equipment such as pumps, valves and screens and also surface processing equipment. The technology uses low energy pulsed radio frequency signals to actively transform the mineral ions in the circulating fluid into non-adhesive micro scale particles. These particles are unable to stick to surfaces and are carried out of the well in suspension. ClearWELL's green technology has been used on many types of wells around the world, delivering impressive performance improvements and significant cost savings by avoiding traditional scale remediation, use of chemicals and production downtime.

Another energy operator in Canada has recently turned to ClearWELL, seeking a better #scalecontrol solution. Its gas lift well in Northern #Alberta had been suffering from extensive #calcite, #barite and #strontium scaling. Deposits were continuously forming on the gas lift mandrels, the entire tubing string, the well inflow valve and some surface valves. The operator needed to perform regular acid jobs to consistently maintain the equipment and flow rate but as this only offered a short-term solution, the company turned to ClearWELL for a better approach.   Following our standard well assessment, scale simulation, EMF modelling and site survey, we installed a signalling unit calibrated for this individual well. The operator chose to power our #ecofriendly, #electromagnetic technology using a 24VDC supply from a solar skid. These wellsite operations are now benefiting from a lower carbon footprint, lower HSE risk, lower OPEX and consistent flow assurance. These benefits will cumulatively increase over time, delivering significant value.   If you’d like to join the many operators around the world that are turning to ClearWELL for a better scale control solution, please contact us today on [email protected] Nick Rychyk

On his decision to join ClearWELL, Eric said: “We have known for some time that electromagnetic devices can impact the formation and adherence of inorganic scales, however, the exact mechanisms by which they work have not been well understood. ClearWELL’s pioneering work in this field has contributed to our understanding of where a signalling device should, and should not, be applied and how to tune it to individual well configurations. This advance in scientific understanding has resulted in high value industry applications, such as the protection of Electric Submersible Pumps, prevention of halite deposition in gas wells and flow assurance for geothermal power systems. This is an exciting and rapidly evolving technology and one that has the added benefit of reducing well interventions and improving the carbon footprint of scale management for thousands of wells worldwide. I am delighted to be playing a part in this advancement!" Pictured: Eric Mackay (L), Non-Executive Director and Keith Coutts (R), CEO, ClearWELL Energy. Here’s our second case study examining how ClearWELL™ can mitigate the severe impact of #halite scale. Our technology has once again eliminated the requirement for freshwater flushes in a gas well in the US and has increased its annual flow rate by 30%. Reducing water flushes saves downtime and lost production, increases annual revenue, provides OPEX cost savings and lowers the carbon footprint. How do we do it?: ClearWELL’s 24/7 electromagnetic field (EMF) provides long-term inhibition of salt deposition in the well and on downhole and surface equipment. The EMF travels from a surface mounted unit into the well, reaching equipment in deep sections that may not otherwise be treated effectively by water injection or flushing. You can find out more about this common challenge and how we solved it in the case study below or get in touch with our team to discuss your own requirements: [email protected] #flowassurance #halite #salting #productionrestoration #wellintegrity #scaleinhibition #ecofriendly #greentech

If you didn’t attend the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show last month, you may like to take a look at the #SPE paper we presented: ‘Enhancing Run-time and Performance of Progressive Cavity Pump Wells with Cutting-Edge Electromagnetic Scale Treatment’, so here’s a link via #OnePetro : https://lnkd.in/eBaGiut9    The paper was co-authored by ClearWELL and #Petrogas: Keith Coutts, ALI AHMED (AL-RABTI), Edurne ElguezabalNabil Al-Harthi, Christian Landgraf, Azzan Moghrob Asmi. It presents a case history demonstrating a successful operator-led field trial of our #electromagnetic #scalecontrol technology on two progressive cavity pump (#PCP) wells in #Oman. Historically, these wells had an average run-life of around 8 - 9 months, with calcite scale causing frequent equipment failures and production downtime. Over the trial period, a range of key performance indicators, including run-time, motor performance and production rates, showed significant improvements. Check out the full results in the link above.   In addition to operational benefits, the technology offers improved #costefficiency, reduced HSE risk and a lower carbon footprint. It eliminates or reduces the need for ongoing chemical injection, interval acid washes, mechanical scale removal and replacement of downhole equipment. Over time, the economics improve.   To find out more please contact [email protected]

We recently installed ClearWELL™ technology on two rod pump wells in Southern Alberta that were suffering from #calcite scale. The scale had been depositing on the pumps, rods, lower bottom hole (BH) assembly and production tubing and frequently caused the pumps to fail. Acid treatments were performed approximately every 6-12 months, but when the pumps failed, the BH pump assembly required repair or replacement, along with replacement tubing in some instances. The associated downtime in such cases can prove costly, depending on the season and rig availability.   Since our technology was added to these wells, the operator has not yet needed to perform an acid treatment and the pumps continue to perform well. The operator now has five of our units covering five wells, having installed the first in September 2023.   Prior to installing our electromagnetic (#EMF) #scalecontrol solution, we conduct a feasibility study to review the well architecture and technical performance data. We then complete inhouse scale modelling, temperature and pressure profiling and radio frequency simulations. If the candidate well is a match for our technology, then we carry out a site survey and signal test before installation. We then continuously remote monitor the performance of our equipment and provide regular on-site health checks to ensure optimum long-term results.   For more information on how ClearWELL™ can treat a range of scale types in downhole and surface equipment and our global track record, please visit our website: www.clearwellenergy.com or contact our team on [email protected]

Having successfully mitigated #halite #scale issues in multiple US gas wells for an existing client, the operator has further expanded its use of our technology. Five ClearWELL™ units were recently installed to treat six gas wells on a multi-well pad in West Virginia. These wells were suffering from halite scaling in the surface flowlines, GPUs and an outlet leading to a compressor. Our EMF signalling units will control halite deposition and deliver long-term, continuous #flowassurance for more efficient production operations. In total, this operator now has 13 ClearWELL™ units in operation, protecting 21 wells from scale. For more information about how ClearWELL can inhibit a range of scale types in different wells and our global track record, please visit our website: www.clearwellenergy.com or contact our team on [email protected]

We’re delighted to be witnessing a great increase in proactive planning by operators to inhibit #scale formation in artificial lift wells. We’ve many clients that have already benefitted from the proven success of ClearWELL™ technology across their assets and are making early decisions to utilise our solution before bringing new wells online, or before beginning secondary or tertiary recovery operations through, e.g., additional sidetracks, extended reach completions or installation of ESPs.   Our most recent round of installations in the US covered ten artificial lift wells for two existing clients. Eight units were installed for one operator in Texas and New Mexico, on wells that had previously used gas lift to support production, with continuous injection of scale inhibitor and occasional scale squeezes to combat scaling. The wells had recently been deepened and the production system reconfigured from gas lift to electrical submersible pumps (#ESP) to improve recovery and uplift efficiency from lower reservoir zones. However, the operator was anticipating increased challenges related to barite buildup and wished to ensure effective protection of the pumping equipment. We have many case studies demonstrating that ClearWELL™ is more effective at protecting ESPs than chemical scale treatments, as its electromagnetic field can reach all those difficult, stagnant or otherwise inaccessible zones where scale likes to reside: https://lnkd.in/eA6i7yPn   We also visited two jet pump wells in Mississippi for a second operator, where we installed one unit to protect both wells from calcite and halite scale. This client had previously experienced significant benefits from our technology on a similar well, highlighting to us that it had surpassed its target performance, with impressive pump cleanliness and exceedingly smooth operation, saying: “It’s quite impressive how clean the pump comes out relative to our other wells. It’s really blown-away our field guys and jet pump hands!"   To find out if we can support #flowassurance and #scalecontrol in your well stock, particularly those with #artificiallift systems, please speak to one of our team today on [email protected] #oilandgas #geothermal #scaleinhibition #ecofriendly #wellsite #technology

Here’s our first case study examining the exceptional benefits of using ClearWELL™ to mitigate the severe impacts of halite scale formation. Our technology recently eliminated the requirement for fresh water flushes in four artificial lift wells in the US and has increased the annual production rate of one of these wells by 50%.   Downhole salting poses significant challenges for many wells, due to its speed of deposition and its impact on production and downtime. In artificial lift wells it also leads to increased power demand on the drive motor and premature equipment failure. Water treatments can struggle to effectively target all areas of deposition making it crucial to find a more effective solution.   ClearWELL™’s 24/7 electromagnetic field (EMF) provides long-term inhibition of salt deposition in the well and on downhole and surface equipment. The EMF travels from our surface mounted unit into the well, reaching equipment in deep sections that may not otherwise be treated effectively by water injection.   You can find out more about this common challenge and how we solved it in the case study below or get in touch with our team to discuss your own requirements on: [email protected]   #flowassurance #halite #salting #productionrestoration #wellintegrity #scaleinhibition #ecofriendly #greentech

Continuing to work with a number of long-term clients in Canada, we've recently installed ClearWELL™ technology on two rod pump oil wells for two different operators in Alberta.   The first installation was for a newly completed well, producing from a field that is well-known for calcite scaling. The operator routinely installs our technology on these wells before production is started, ensuring the best possible performance.   The second project involved a well which had been suffering from calcite scaling on the insert pump, periodically causing the rods to part, with associated downtime every 4-6 weeks. This client already has ClearWELL™ units working across eight different fields and is a keen advocate for our technology after experiencing its flow assurance benefits first-hand over a number of years.   Prior to the installation of our electromagnetic solution, we conduct a feasibility study to review the well architecture and technical performance data. We then complete in-house scale modelling, temperature and pressure profiling and radio frequency simulations. If the candidate well is a match for our technology then we carry out a site survey and signal test before installation. We then continuously remote monitor the performance of our equipment and provide regular on-site health checks to ensure optimum long-term results.   These projects further demonstrate the importance of using ClearWELL™ scale-control technology for artificial lift wells around the world. For more information please contact [email protected]   #scalecontrol #artificiallift #flowassurance #productionoptimisation
