I must confess, I was pretty nervous about facilitating a Climate Fresk UK workshop for Rupert Read Co - director of Climate Majority Project.
For those who don't know Rupert already, he has been a leading light of the climate movement for years, having been elected a Green party councillor in 2004. He is also Professor of Philosophy, the author of countless books many about Wittgenstein and ecology, was a co - founder and key spokes for XR when it burst onto the scene in 2018/19.
So clearly if anyone knows about climate change it is Rupert, no wonder i was nervous and why had I invited him to a Fresk and why did he agree to try it?
I hoped to show him what a great communication tool Fresk is for facilitating conversations and understanding around the climate crisis and what we can do.
So, I took a deep breath and trusted the process of the game and I think it worked well.
I am inviting Rupert Read to say what he thought below.
I don't know about you but I can find it so hard to have a real nuanced in-depth conversation about greenhouse gas pollution, its consequences and the effect it is having on our environment and what we can do about it.
Our divisive times have made it politically loaded, many are too scared to face it, others just ignore it and hope it will go away so it is really useful to have a frame to work to.
Climate Fresk is a very matter of fact interactive card game that helps anyone understand the challenges we face as laid out in the IPCC reports. It has been seen by 1.7 million people worldwide and that figure is growing every day.
I have now facilitated workshops with so many diverse audiences. Boardrooms of super successful PLC’s. shopping centre security staff, NGO’s, climate campaigners, old friends, teachers, the general public and now I can add Professor of Philosophy to the list too. It works with everyone.
We hold regular Climate Fresk and Biodiversity Collage workshops at Islington Climate Centre, once you have participated in a workshop you can train to be a facilitator and cascade it through your own networks, next Biodiversity collage is Tues 18th June (tomorrow)

If you ever get the chance to go to one of Rupert’s Wittgenstein evenings, I definitely recommend it, I had a genuine epiphany for which I will be eternally grateful.
