    Small but ever so mighty 💪   Over 4 million micro-donations have been made in the UK&I since we started working with Pennies*.   Did you know? 💻 In the UK, we raise enough money every day to provide three families with a laptop, suitable for learning at home Digital Poverty Alliance; 🐕 In Ireland, we raise funds for My Canine Companion who provide accredited service dogs to people with disabilities, predominantly autism; 💳 If every UK cardholder gave just 35p a week, micro-donations could inject an incredible £1 billion in additional income into the UK charity sector each year!   This #MicrodonationDay, we want to highlight the importance of the power of micro-donations and thank our customers for their generosity.     Digital Divide Remains with Kids Reliant on Smartphones to Study    Today marks the launch of the Digital Poverty Alliance's new research, revealing the damaging effects that digital poverty is having on children’s education, taking place in Ayrshire, Scotland (pictured below). Key findings include: 💻 Almost 3 in 5 children rely on other devices, mainly smartphones, to study 💻 Most parents agreed that their children were disadvantaged to some extent by not having access to a laptop for studying 💻 Cost is the biggest barrier to getting children access to laptops 💻 Students who preferred to use smartphones to complete academic tasks tend to have lower levels of academic performance than those who use laptops   Currys is taking action to help eradicate digital poverty by 2030, and through the Tech4Families scheme have provided laptops to 1,758 families, so far.     “ The next big thing” headlines leave us a little weary and cynical.. So how can you tell when something has the genuine ability to create societal change? With the kind permission of Sulaiman R. Khan (سلیمان راشد خان) I am sharing his feedback of his visit to Currys plc using the award winning WelcoMe service. His words mean the world to me personally due to my immense respect for him as an advocate and human and also as he underlines beautifully everything that I have dedicated my life to achieving with WelcoMe. Is it too much to believe we can fundamentally improve the retail experience for disabled people? You decide: “On 4 August 2024, I went to Currys (Tottenham Court Road) to participate in the pilot trial of the WelcoMe technology via Neatebox Limited. I have had extensive inaccessible and ableist experiences with retailers for most of my life, so I was anxious about this experience. However, not only were my expectations met during my visit to Currys, but they were also exceeded. The staff were communicative, engaged (rightfully so) with me directly, and thoughtful. I credit 100% of my exceeded expectations down to WelcoMe. As a wholeheartedly Disabled AF power wheelchair user, I find WelcoMe accessible, quick, and heartful. I can see WelcoMe having a profound impact on my life. If WelcoMe is permanently implemented nationwide, I will not only be back at Currys. The technology should also be permanently implemented at all retailers, businesses, medical facilities, music venues, arts centres, and more. WelcoMe facilitates Disabled people like me’s full participation in society as valuable customers and consumers. Also, WelcoMe is creating a more accessible and just world for Disabled people and, in turn, everyone because we’re statistically all going to become Disabled, whether we accept it or not. Thank you, Gavin and the Neatebox Limited team, for creating WelcoMe to facilitate the integration and not segregation of Disabled people into society. I can’t recommend WelcoMe highly enough to any business that wants to support Disabled people and genuinely cares about creating an accessible, equitable world. More of this, please!
