We’re thrilled to be featured in The AI Journal as part of a broader discussion on AI’s potential to transform healthcare on a global scale.🌎 We’re in great company as our insights appear alongside those of leading AI professionals like Andreas Cleve, CEO and Co-founder of Corti, and George Kowalski, VP of Business Development at MiiCare. The AI Journal reaches over half a million readers worldwide each month, making this an incredible platform to discuss the complexities and challenges AI faces in the healthcare sector - and its revolutionary impact on the industry. The article’s well worth a read. It delves into the many positive aspects of AI in healthcare, while also addressing some of the potential drawbacks too. In our contribution, we talk about the importance in successful AI healthcare systems of holistic input - not just from software developers and medical professionals, but also from patients, families, employees, and the broader healthcare community. It’s crucial that we understand the perspectives of those who will be interacting with the technology, and acknowledge that the best interests of tech companies may not always align with those of the customers they aim to serve, even with the best intentions. 🌟 It’s been an exciting few weeks at Deep Medical, and we have much to celebrate. Last month, we achieved a major milestone by going LIVE across the entire Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.🚀 This means that our AI software is now fully deployed across the Trust, helping to tackle the backlog of 153,000 patients waiting for non-urgent care. This is a huge step forward for us. We successfully completed our pilot program with the Trust last year, and are now poised to make a positive impact on patient care in Essex’s most populous region. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated teams at Mid and South Essex NHS Trust and Cisco for their hard work in bringing this all together. We’re excited to continue making a difference and helping more patients access the care they need. And we’re looking forward to the next chapter in our journey - which is making healthcare more equitable and accessible for everyone.

There are 100,000 dedicated volunteers across the NHS, bringing with them  local expertise and a commitment to supporting their communities. Who better to help us improve access to care. We’re running a six-month pilot with George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, where volunteers contact patients who our AI software has identified as being at risk of missing their appointments. The volunteers can either help them reschedule or offer additional support such as transport or someone to greet them at the hospital. Though the pilot has only been running for four months, we’ve already seen impressive results. Interim data from July 2024 reveals a 28.8% reduction in Did Not Attends (DNAs) across the two hospitals. There’s still much to be done, but we’re proud of the progress so far. Check out this article in Digital Health Magazine to read more about the pilot >> https://lnkd.in/e2tNNHSA

🏢We’re all unpacked and settled into our new office home at FORA York House in the Kings Cross area of London. It’s been good to explore a new area and enjoy a bit more space. 💡While some of our team are remote, it’s been fantastic to have most of us in the office, collaborating and sharing ideas face-to-face.

📻 ICYMI. Check out our co-founder Benyamin Deldar talking to Stig Abell on Times Radio recently, about our ‘good news tech story'. Ben says, 'It’s not just about forgetting and reminding. It’s about the fundamental inequalities in our society that can prevent people from attending their hospital appointments. AI can help us both understand human behaviour, and improve hospital processes.’ Click here to listen.👇

🌟Our work with volunteers at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has helped reduce the DNA (Did Not Attend) rate by 28.8%. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the NHS, and they understand their local community better than anyone else. Especially the barriers patients might face in booking an appointment. Jane Smyth, Volunteer at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust says; ‘Since we have been making the calls using the Deep Medical software, the reminder calls are having a tremendous impact on the reduction of DNAs. I’m so happy to assist in helping to reduce the challenges that some of our patients have.’ ‘In these challenging times for the NHS, it’s crucial to ensure accessibility to healthcare for everyone, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the patients’ lives and to improve the reputation and efficiency of the George Eliot Hospital.’ The volunteer community is a key part of the NHS and, at South Warwickshire hospital, 617 volunteers gave over 31,000 hours of their time last year. Volunteers offer vital support in health and care systems across NHS England, and volunteering is seen as a key enabler in transforming the way the NHS works with people and communities. It’s also an important part of the success of the NHS Five Year Forward View which encourages community volunteering.

🌟Our Patient and Public Engagement lead, Gemma Poole, has been nominated for an award in Excellence in Midwifery for Leadership by the The Royal College of Midwives (RCM). Gemma is a registered midwife, clinical entrepreneur, and founder of The Essential Baby Company. Here’s what she had to say.👇 ‘I am honoured to be shortlisted for this award, particularly for leadership. To me, leadership is not just about holding a position. I believe that leadership is rooted in innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity. Leadership is about using your voice to create a better future for everyone. You don’t have to be in a position of power to make a change. You just need to use your voice. My work focuses on reducing inequalities in maternal and neonatal healthcare. Here, leadership is about the drive to ensure that no one is left behind, especially the voices of underserved women. We know that AI will play a crucial role in healthcare innovation in the future. Which is why we need to be working together to ensure that innovation benefits everyone, and doesn’t exacerbate existing inequalities and bias. Earlier this year, the NHS Race & Health Observatory launched a landmark pilot Learning and Action Network (LAN) to address disparities in maternal, perinatal, and neonatal health outcomes. Large-scale improvement programmes in England have yet to address persistent inequalities in these areas; maternal mortality is almost three times higher for Black women and twice as high for Asian women compared to white women. My work with Deep Medical is about making sure that every voice in healthcare is valued and heard, moving from plans and ideas to action, implementation and results.   So I’m truly honoured to be nominated for this award, and to be able to help to create a better future - for everyone.' The RCM Awards highlight the best in teamwork and evidence-based practice projects, recognising outstanding individuals who have made a positive impact on women, families, and their newborns, showcasing world-class midwifery standards. We are incredibly proud of Gemma, her leadership, and her dedication to driving positive change in maternal healthcare.

📰 We're thrilled to see our pilot with George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust featured in the local press, where it can truly impact the community. 🙏 Thank you, Stratford Herald, for highlighting the work that we’re doing with the incredible NHS volunteers and Helpforce. We’re partnering with local NHS volunteers to reduce the backlog of patients waiting for care. Using our DM Schedules AI software, volunteers call patients who are at risk of missing their appointments. And the results so far are promising. In just four months, patient no-shows have decreased by 29%. This success translates to savings of £36K per week for the Trusts - almost £2 million a year. A huge thank you to all the NHS volunteers and Helpforce for their hard work in helping patients get to their appointments. Instead of slots going to waste, we’re reassigning them to other patients to reduce the waiting list.
