DelAgua Group

August has been a busy month for the DelAgua field teams.   At the beginning of the month, The Gambia team conducted household visits in Tumana, Fuladu East, Jimara Districts in Upper River Region & Upper Fulladu West in Central River Region. These visits allow for one-to-one engagement with beneficiaries to educate on the benefits of #cleancooking.   The following week our Rwandan team conducted training for Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Nyagatare District. More than 200 new CHWs were trained, to carry out household visits and to use the specially designed DelAgua smartphone #technology that is central to the effective household training, tracking and support programme. The families will continue to receive CHW visits and get support from their local, trusted team, throughout the life of the stove. This approach means we achieve very high usage levels and behaviour change is immediate and lasting.   Last week the newly trained CHWs were able to put their training into practice as household visits took place in Nyagatare District. Our use of technology enables the geolocation of stoves and monitoring of household usage at scale. Stoves are stamped at manufacture with a unique, indelible QR code and at distribution this is scanned using the DelAgua smartphone app and matched with the recipient’s identity and household details. This provides the precise geolocation of each stove which is checked at this in-home #education and training visit and then at the bi-annual visits to every stove recipient. This level of monitoring is unique in the sector and DelAgua’s carbon credits are recognised for their #integrity, #impact and #quality. So far, over 23,000 household visits have been conducted this month.   #LiveWell #TubehoNezaRw 

Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of participating in two field visits with DelAgua Group to Nyagatare and Muhanga. While I have learned a great deal about the stove distribution and monitoring process in theory, seeing it in action has provided a completely enlightening perspective. Witnessing the positive impacts on families and individuals firsthand has been enriching and truly completed my understanding of their significance. A special thank you to Régis Ruzirabwoba, Elizabeth Byamugisha, Bruno Nyirimana , Eric IZERIMANA and Musa Hakizimana for their exceptional teamwork and support during these visits.
