🌟 It's been a big year for the Community Funding Accelerator (CFA) so far! Thanks to its support, Indiana’s Heartland BioWorks will receive $51 million and Colorado’s Elevate Quantum will receive $41 million through the federal Tech Hubs program, facilitated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Both projects propose cultivating a deep talent pipeline that begins in K-12 schools, connecting the next generation of technology leaders to hands-on learning opportunities and potential employers. With a focus on K-12 education and career-connected learning, the CFA has been instrumental in identifying relevant grant opportunities, building coalitions, and providing deep technical assistance to submit and implement winning proposals. 🔗 Learn more about how, together, we're empowering communities to unlock federal funding and create lasting, positive outcomes 👉 https://lnkd.in/d42Z8-7Q

We recently sat down with Beth Ann Saracco-Manuel, Project Leader at Delivery Associates, to discuss the critical challenges and opportunities in aligning K-12 education with future workforce needs. Beth Ann works on the Community Funding Accelerator which helps communities across the country apply for and win federal grants focused on career-connected learning in K-12 education. She emphasized that 65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately work in jobs that don’t yet exist. So - question remains how do we embed future-proof skills in today's education?

🚨 Last month, the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University and the Education Opportunity Project at Stanford University published interesting new insights on how the US federal pandemic relief has helped academic recovery in K-12 schools; particularly in low-income districts. 🔍 Some Key Findings: - Impact of Federal Aid: Each $1,000 in relief spending per student resulted in approximately 6 days of learning in math and 3 days in reading, helping to close educational gaps exacerbated by the pandemic. - Disparities in Funding: The highest poverty districts received $7,700 per student, significantly more than affluent districts, playing a crucial role in addressing educational inequalities. - Future Projections: While federal aid has made a positive impact, many districts may struggle once this aid expires. Sustained state-level support is essential to continue the recovery process. 💡 Some Practical Insights and Recommendations: - Targeted Interventions: States should focus on academic interventions like tutoring and summer learning to sustain and build on the recovery. - Reducing Absenteeism: Chronic absenteeism is a significant issue, with 26% of students chronically absent in the 2022-23 school year. Coordinated efforts to reduce absenteeism can substantially enhance academic outcomes. - Parental Awareness: Informing parents about their child's academic standing is critical. Many parents are unaware their children are behind, which affects their engagement in supportive programs. - Optimizing Federal Funds: States should leverage federal funds more strategically by reserving a portion for direct student services, as seen in Ohio's successful approach. This research underscores the importance of well-targeted educational funding in overcoming unprecedented challenges. 🌐 Learn more about the full report: https://lnkd.in/eSzrXy46

As many families and educators get ready for the start of a new school year, we are reminded "Education is the great equalizer," or so it should be. According to the Economic Policy Institute, US school districts in high-poverty areas still receive about 14% less funding per student than those in low-poverty areas. This funding gap affects the quality of education, resources, and opportunities available, ultimately impacting students' futures. Why It Matters: 💼 Economic Mobility: Full-time employment in a quality job is foundational to creating economic mobility and reducing inequality. 📈 Attracting Employers: When individuals have the education and skills demanded by current and future industries, communities can attract and retain high-quality employers, leading to generational gains in income and living standards. 🏆 Equal Access: Every child should have access to quality education and career-connected learning that leads to a future where they can achieve family-sustaining careers. We must bridge these gaps to ensure that where a student is born or the zip code of their school does not determine their destiny.

Hear our Associate Director, Fiorella Ormeno, explain the incredible impact she's witnessed through her work to drive better student outcomes in The Bahamas. In 2021, the Government of The Bahamas prioritized Education as one of the key areas to drive significant change with support from its Prime Minister's Delivery Unit. 📈 Impact So Far - Achieved a 94% improvement in school attendance in the 2022/2023 school year. - Over 146,000 breakfasts served under a new National School Breakfast Pilot Programme to improve attendance in 2023-2024. - An increase in attendance of 3.9 pp across participating schools.   🚀 Looking Ahead: Building on the program's success, the breakfast program will expand to all pre-primary, primary, and all-age schools in the Family Islands, benefiting over 12,000 students this upcoming school year. At Delivery Associates, impact drives us forward – personally, professionally, and for our partners.

At Delivery Associates, we truly walk alongside our partners to drive impact. We are thrilled members of our team, Natália Coêlho Rodrigo Assis and Amarilis Altagracia Aquino, were able to join the City Data Alliance alongside Mayor Ricardo Quiñónez

“Every resident counts!” 🌎 That’s why Mayor Ricardo Quiñónez Lemus is proud to have Guatemala City, Guatemala participating in the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance. By leveraging data, the city aims to improve the lives of all its residents. As part of the Alliance, Mayor Quiñónez and his senior leadership team will develop a comprehensive citywide data strategy. One key focus of their work will be monitoring and preserving the urban tree canopy, showcasing the cultural significance of the city’s green spaces and the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability. 🌳 Our coaches were excited to join the Mayor and his team earlier this week to kick off this important work.
