About us
The East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) provides a wide range of community, inpatient and primary care services to children, young people, adults of working age and older adults to the City of London, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Bedfordshire and Luton. We provide forensic service to all boroughs in North East London and manage four primary care GP practices in Havering and Dagenham. Our Values are: We care | We respect | We are inclusive Originally formed in 2000, ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental health care, innovation and improvement. Our ambition is to make a positive difference by providing people with mental and community health care services that support their recovery and help them to achieve the most fulfilling lives possible. Everything we do is driven by our values of care, respect and inclusivity. Our patients’ needs matter most and we are constantly working to improve our support for all who use and have contact with our services. Our extensive research approach, commitment to education and emphasis on quality means we are at the forefront of excellence in mental health care. Award Winning Services In January 2022, ELFT achieved its third consecutive ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC); the first Community and Mental Health Trust to achieve this rating for a third time.

We’re delighted that the quality improvement project Improving Observations and Therapeutic Engagement on Mental Health Inpatient Wards has been shortlisted in the Patient Safety Improvement category of the Nursing Times Awards. The project involved the co-design and testing of over 25 change ideas across the Trust. The result: tangible changes to the environment including reductions in several areas of violence (physical, verbal, sexual, racial).
