Back in 2019, we were lucky enough to rehome three ancient olive trees from Spain and Portugal. They are estimated to vary in age between 600 and 1,500 years old, and had been removed from farms to make way for the planting of younger olive trees. Cultivated around the Mediterranean for 5,500 years, they can survive in arid conditions for an incredibly long time (some examples are 2,000 years old). Think of the stories of ancient civilisations embodied in their gnarled trunks' DNA! We've recently launched an Immersive Mediterranean Experience where visitors can come face-to-face with these beautiful olive trees, get the chance to taste different olive oils, and hear stories of their origins. Plus, discover the secrets behind cork production, fine wine and so much more. 🌿 Take a look: https://bit.ly/4em4r1B #Horticulture #Nature #Trees

Education is at the heart of everything we do, so we are grateful to be partnered with Planet Mark for our Leaders in Outdoor Learning course. The benefits of outdoor learning and nature-based play are well documented. We know that children are happier, healthier and more successful as learners if they have regular access to nature and the outdoors. This course will enable participants to gain inspiration, ideas and confidence to plan and deliver playful, creative, curriculum-focussed lessons outside. At the Eden Project, we provide a wealth of learning opportunities for everyone from preschool to degree level and beyond. It is all part of our mission to connect people of all ages with the natural world, better understand their place within it and play their part in shaping the future. Thanks to a warm, wet spring, the Outdoor Gardens are a feast for the senses at the moment! Highlights include: • Late-blooming lavender buzzing with bees • Vibrant South African veld and North American Prairie flourishing like never before • Damp-loving carnivorous plants thriving near the Core building • Gorgeous Japanese anemone surrounding the Plane Tree Steps While our gardens thrive, the changing climate is a growing concern. Our work at the Eden Project – in the gardens and beyond – is to demonstrate positive action for the planet, including the ways we can help stabilise the climate. We hope your next visit leaves you feeling inspired. 🌱

Can you share your experiences of how recreational activities impact nature? 🍃 Eden Project is a partner in a Natural England funded project, Countryside Access, Recreation, and Environmental Stewardship (C.A.R.E.), alongside Blenheim Palace, The Ramblers and Oxfordshire County Council. C.A.R.E. is investigating how responsible recreation can be encouraged whilst protecting sensitive natural sites and would like to hear from you. The anonymous responses to this survey, which takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, will help us shape this work so that protection and enjoyment of nature can go hand in hand. If you are involved in the management or maintenance of a green or blue space, please follow this link: https://bit.ly/3Wyj9eO If you visit natural, green or blue spaces for recreation, please follow this link: https://bit.ly/4d6cCyW More information for survey participants can be found here: https://bit.ly/3YsDsNk Find more information and links to both surveys here: https://bit.ly/3AdGjj1

Our partnership with Volvo Car UK aims to inspire and educate people about how we can protect the planet to create a safer future. 🌍 The fully electric Volvo EX30 is designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date, so it’s only fitting to have a car parking space here at Eden. Outside the Core building you can meet the Volvo EX30 and discover how off-street parking can be practical, look great and help improve biodiversity. The display features a permeable surface to soak up rain and prevent flooding, along with plants to absorb CO2 and improve air quality.
