We had a great few days last weekend at the Border Union Show in Kelso. There were plenty of visitors to our stand over the two days, where we had activities and refreshments for children and adults to enjoy, including a scavenger hunt around the showground. Thanks to everyone who came to learn more about our wind farms in the region, and the organisers for putting on a cracking event. We held a raffle for our charity partner, Alzheimer Scotland, which runs a dementia café in nearby Kelso, and raised £300. His Grace, The Duke of Roxburghe, President of the Border Union Show, drew the winning tickets on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to everyone who took part. Pictured are members of the EDF Renewables UK team at the show (from top, clockwise): Andrew Bennett with the Duke of Roxburghe drawing the raffle, Jamie Hunter, Logan Black and Sarah Dooley. #Communities #Sponsorship #ScottishBorders #AcceleratingCleanEnergy
About us
EDF Renewables is part of one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies in the UK. With our portfolio of 42 sites across the UK, including onshore, offshore, battery and solar, we are providing some of the much needed new affordable, low carbon electricity the UK needs. EDF Renewables UK has more than 14 GW of renewables projects in planning and development. We look after the operations and maintenance of our own wind farms. Customers need new low carbon electricity to be affordable – our innovation is driving costs down, for example our Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project which has used float and submerge technology on the foundations, 66 kV electrical connection cables and 8.3MW turbines – all firsts in offshore wind. We are also looking at the future of onshore wind using the most modern and efficient turbines to make this technology as low cost as possible. The basis of our success is our people. We have an engaged, enthusiastic and dedicated team in an organisation that encourages agile, flexible and dynamic working. The willingness of the team to pull together to meet challenges is the source of our momentum. Whether you're working in the operational environment on site, or in one of our support functions in an office, we value the contribution each person makes. Every year we run a apprenticeship and graduate schemes to provide unique opportunities for people to get a foot into the renewable energy career ladder. For all careers opportunities and enquiries, please visit our careers page - www.edf-re.uk/careers We pride ourselves on working closely with local communities throughout the projects, from the early stages right the way through to development, construction, operation and beyond. The Onshore Wind Industry Taskforce met for the first time this week, chaired by the Energy Secretary and Matthieu Hue, our CEO. The Taskforce will drive action across industry and Government to unblock barriers to rapidly increase onshore wind capacity. It follows off the back of yesterday's announcement increasing the budget for this year’s renewables auction. Commenting on the first meeting, Matthieu said: “Onshore wind is already playing a vital role in the UK and is one of the most cost-effective forms of new electricity generation but more must be done to unlock its full potential. By bringing industry and government together, the taskforce is focused on creating practical solutions to overcome barriers to accelerate our journey to achieving net zero. So, let’s get to work.” https://ow.ly/pa4a50SP6Gi #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #OnshoreWind #OnshoreWindTaskforce

Here's a statement from Matthieu Hue, our Chief Executive, following the announcement from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of the increase in the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 6 budget: “It is great to see that the government has taken action by increasing the budget for this year’s renewable energy auction. We must accelerate the deployment of renewables to meet our net zero targets and the Contract for Difference is a key mechanism to enable this. “This is good news not just for the renewables industry but for the entire UK, as it means we will be able to deliver greater amounts of clean energy, lower bills and energy security. “We would have liked to have seen a greater budget increase for floating offshore wind, as we believe it will play a pivotal role in the UK’s ability to reach our climate change targets. “We look forward to continuing to work with UK government to meet 2030 ambitions.” https://lnkd.in/ebCbeHcf #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #OffshoreWind #FLOW

We are still on a high from this year’s HebCelt Festival, which took place on Stornoway last weekend. We were delighted to sponsor the Lewis Wind Power Islands Stage for the seventh year through our joint venture with ESB for our Stornoway wind farm. It was a fantastic weekend of brilliant live music – well done to the festival organisers for delivering another spectacular event 👏 Our Director of Onshore, Hydrogen and C&I Solar Jon O'Sullivan (pictured on the left) was delighted to attend on behalf of Lewis Wind Power. www.hebceltfest.com #HebCelt2024 #Communities #OuterHebrides #AcceleratingCleanEnergy

With today’s launch of Great British Energy, as part of the UK's biggest generator of zero carbon electricity and as a major employer and investor in the UK, EDF Renewables welcomes the new Government’s focus on clean power. We support their ambitions to build more low-carbon electricity infrastructure and their commitment to strong economic growth. Expanding renewables and nuclear, and removing the barriers stalling clean power projects, are critical to delivering the Government’s mission for 2030 and beyond. We welcome the Government’s pledge to work with industry stakeholders and look forward to working with Government and Great British Energy on accelerating progress and helping Britain to achieve net zero.
📣 Announced today – Great British Energy will work in partnership with the private sector and The Crown Estate to accelerate the deployment of new renewable energy projects and support UK supply chains. Great British Energy will be a new publicly-owned company set up to help make Britain a clean energy superpower, create jobs across the UK in our supply chains and boost our energy independence. Members of the team were in London this week to meet with some of Westminster's newest faces. Here's Lindsey Southworth, our Head of Communications, with Torcuil Crichton, the new MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, discussing our Stornoway wind farm project, our Lewis Wind Power joint venture with ESB. We're looking forward to working together to accelerate the UK – and Scotland's – path to net zero. #MP #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Scotland

Our wind farms do more than accelerate our transition to net zero by decarbonising our energy system. They also bring much-needed funding and investment to rural areas through community benefit funds that support local projects and initiatives. The Longpark Community Fund is a case in point. It’s funded by our Longpark wind farm in the Scottish Borders and supports communities in the Parish of Stow. It's awarded £680,000 since launch – but has supported projects with overall budgets worth more than £2.6 million. So that means for £1 awarded by the Fund, an additional £2.89 has been invested into local communities. We're back for a second year as one of the sponsors at the Border Union Show in Kelso next weekend. We'll have a stand at the show with lots of activities, and are welcoming locals and visitors along to have some refreshments or take part in our raffle. There's also a treasure hunt around the showground for children. The Scottish Borders is a special place for EDF Renewables UK, as we have two wind farms in the area – Fallago Rig and Longpark – and three projects in development, and we continue to work closely with local communities across the area.
