I am really excited to be hosting a webinar on 11th September (13:00), with Kevin and Darren to discuss the reality of the Build Your Own "Competitive Flexible" Adventure: It feels like a long time coming, but the Procurement Act is almost upon us. (T- 61 days, 11 hours at the time of writing but who's counting) From a practitioner's perspective, one of the most significant changes is the introduction of the Competitive Flexible Procedure (CFP). This new procedure looks to open the door on a more tailored and focused procurement process - colloquially known as "build your own adventure" by many colleagues. Back in January 2023 - posed the question "Is public procurement ready to bring negotiation back to the table?" - based on recent conversations with clients it feels like the answer is Yes! Bangladesh is the third largest global exporter in the textile and apparel industry – but the country is grappling with a rising civil unrest that threatens the cost and capacity advantages it offers in the fashion supply chain.   The apparel industry contributes 20% to the country's GDP and 83% to exports, with an approximately $38.4 billion export value of garments in 2023. However, the lack of proper infrastructure, high dependence on imported raw materials, high scrutiny from NGO and CSR stakeholders due to low compliance, and political and economic instability are some of the challenges that need to be addressed. Political upheaval has made currency values plummet, increasing the cost of imported raw materials. Further, many factories are temporarily closed due to the current upheaval and uncertainty.   As we navigate these challenges, it's crucial that the fashion industry focus on maintaining factory relationships, reducing dependence on imported raw materials, and supporting garment workers by providing deadline extensions when possible.
