So you are student, you have a linked account, you know what to post (cus you’ve read my last post 😉)… but who should you follow? 1.Follow your dream company/ companies of interest ! Follow Jaguar, Mercedes, or Audi if you're into cars. Interested in AI? Research companies invested in AI with cutting-edge technologies—they likely have a high budget for it, making you a potential fit. On their main page, discover gems like events, latest news, industry insights, and more about company culture. Valuable intel for any interview. Don't just stick to LinkedIn; if they're on other socials, follow them there too. 🚗🤖 2. Follow early recruiters ! Beyond the company's main page, follow employees, especially hiring recruiters. Don't message them, but watch their feed—they often post about open applications and events you can join. 📩👥 3. Follow people one step ahead of you ! Spot someone doing what you want in a year or two—interns, recent grads, follow them! Gauge when to apply next year, emulate their success, or message for tips on reaching their position. 🎓🚀 #CareerGrowth #LearnFromPeers #RecruitmentInsight #CareerOpportunities #engineering #engineeringstudents

    Top Engineering branding tips

LinkedIn is an amazing tool that can be used for multiple purposes: sharing ideas, connecting, finding out about events, the list goes on. BUT… by far the most valuable purpose of LinkedIn in my opinion is PERSONAL BRANDING. 😎 From the perspective of a student who is thinking about how to stand out in future applications, I would advise to post on LinkedIn bearing in mind a future employer will probably look through it. 📚💼 How amazing would it be as an applicant for a hiring manager to search your name, and they find a polished LinkedIn page that you have designed just for them to see! 🌟 According to Wikipedia, 'Personal branding is the conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual...' 😄 In other words, you having a say in what people know you for. Are you creative? Do you love cars? Are you normally working in teams? Are you up to date with technology trends? 🚀💡 All of the above are great things to show as an engineering student and are quite easy to show on LinkedIn. 🛠️ 3 Practical steps: 1. Post about your interests Whatever hobbies or interests you have that relate to your future ideal career or industry, post about. E.g. you just read a blog on AI, post your thoughts on here. You are working on a local engineering student formula project, post a picture with a comment on what you have done. 📰📸 2. Follow the right pages and people You have a dream company you want to work for? Follow them, see what events they have; they may have some for students. Try to find and follow the hiring manager for that company. They tend to post application opening dates and events they have on offer.!!!! 🏢👥 You have a dream role you know about? Find people with that role, follow them and maybe send them a message (normal safety measures in mind). Ask them questions about their role. 🤝🔍 Follow students in the year above you, or those who have recently graduated. They may currently be doing activities you can apply for the next year. 🎓🚀 3. Keep your profile looking good Keep your profile up to date. Make use of your banner (I would recommend using Canva, it is free!). Anyone should be able to know exactly what kind of person you are in the first couple of seconds of looking at your page. 🖼️👁️ That's all my tips for now! Commerical awareness for engineers !

View profile for Roufiat A. BEng, graphic

Engineering Content Creator | Network Engineer

What is ‘Commerical Awareness’ and why is it important for job interviews? Having attended multiple interview and career preparation workshops ✍🏾, and undertaking multiple interviews myself 💼 I have really come to understand the power of understanding why it is important to have a good understanding of what is going on in the industry you are applying for. 🧠 Commercial awareness is just that, understanding news, trends and relevant information in the industry you are applying for. 🧐 Here are some things I think an engineering student should know before walking into an interview. 💡 1. Sustainability goals. 🌳 Every industry is trying to do their share to take care for the plant. Every company has their own agenda or specific plan to do this. It could be being carbon neutral, achieving net zero by 2025 or cutting back on emissions by 50%. You can find this out before the interview by looking at their website and finding out about their sustainability goals. 2. Generative AI. 💻💻 There will always be trends in technology, but right now as a student I would be think about how generative AI can impact my role. Would I have to pick up some coding skills? Is the job role I am applying for comptabile with being automated? If Generative AI is used, how can it be kept ethical. 3. Climate change, global warming and unpredictable weather. 🌏❄️☀️ With climate change making global temperature rise and weather to fluctuate more than ever, what can engineers do to improve this. Can we as engineers plan ahead to ensure we have processes that mitigate the impact of unprecedented weather? 4. Diversity. 🤝Ensuring all voices are heard is now a necessity and responsibility of every individual. How would you ensure everyone on your team is heard during meetings? Are you building experiences so that you are working with different types of people.
