🖋 Our Associate Director, Hannah James, has written a book! 📕 She worked with her English teacher, Letitia Mohabir, to describe her experiences as a student at Adult Learning Lewisham (ALL), how she discovered Entelechy Arts, and how this led to her being employed as our Associate Director! The book's beautiful illustrations are by artist Saffron Cann. 🎨 ✨ "How I Flourished" will be used to help people learn to read. An inspiring and positive story of Hannah's journey to success, it will undoubtedly show others that they too can reach their goals with hard work and dedication. Congratulations Hannah! 🎉 #book #success #writing #journey #inspirational Lewisham Council

Entelechy Arts creates exciting and challenging art forged from the collision of different worlds and life experiences.
About us
Entelechy Arts is a charity based in Lewisham, South East London. We produce projects which powerfully test the boundaries between art, creativity, care, wellbeing and community. We believe in the creative power of the individual, and that everyone should have the opportunity to contribute to the cultural life of their local community. This richness in sharing stories and experiences of those who can often feel underrepresented, encourages stronger communities, changes perceptions, and ultimately helps people live healthier, happier and more connected lives. We produce vibrant and important cultural programmes, created by and for the communities we work with, namely isolated older people, those living with profound and multiple disabilities, and those living in care home environments, enabling them to play an active and visible role in the creative life of their community. Our programmes are often developed in partnership with organisations from across the arts, health and care industries on a local and national level. We work with a pioneering and diverse range of artists across all art forms, who collaborate with our communities to meet, celebrate, and experience each other and the world.

Very important video by Lewisham Council laying out plans to offer unpaid carers increased support.
In our borough there are thousands of unpaid carers who care for a relative or friend. Unpaid Carers make a huge contribution to our communities but we know it can be really challenging. That’s why we want to make sure that they know about what support is available. Cllr Laura Cunningham explains how we’re improving support for Unpaid Carers. This includes a dedicated drop-in carers hub at Glass Mill Leisure Centre open every week, Monday to Friday, where carers can get support and information. We also have a monthly carers forum on the last Tuesday of every month, 1-3pm, at the Civic Suite in Catford. This is where carers can tell us about the support they need, help improve services and share their suggestions The next one is happening today - all are welcome! Our website has more information about support and advice for unpaid carers: https://lnkd.in/djmdwvMw

It was great to have Draw Yourself at Meet Me at The Albany! Some fantastic self portraits and engaging discussions about the power of self expression and reflection 🤩✏️💛 the Albany #drawyourself #portrait #communityarts #art #creativity
In March, Draw Yourself was invited to participate in the Albany's wonderful MeetMe program. Brought to life by Entelechy Arts MeetMe is an award-winning program of creative, and social activities for over 60’s down at The Albany and across Lewisham. 🎨 During the workshop, we enjoyed a morning of creativity. We ran through a series of self-portrait exercises and chatted about our experiences of drawing and art, and its power to allow us to reflect throughout life. We can’t wait to come back, thank you for having us Entelechy Arts!

"Meeting together is very important. Eating together is very important. Laughing together is very important." Our Meet Me... members Geri and Pauline took part in the Campaign for the Arts, speaking about why attending Meet Me sessions, and participating in the arts in general, is important to them. Today we are sharing a glimpse of social science in action. Artist-researcher and Creative Director Entelechy Arts: Free-lance Creative Consultant: Multi-disciplinary Artist.
Was a delight and privilege to work on this with our Ambient Jam Entelechy Arts artists Lee Phillips, Merlin Hayward, Gill Moore, Hannah James, Jiaoyang Wang, Rainer Knupp, in collaboration with the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations and the amazing cohort of postgraduate students from Bowling Green State University Ohio, U.S.A. Organisation Development and Change programme Steve Cady, Ph.D. We do this once a year and it never fails to be a cultural encounter of rich embodied learning for us all.

☀️ It was the Walking Through Walls summer party yesterday! 🎈🧁 🎵 Music, dancing, tea, and cake with residents of Tower Bridge Care Home💃🏻 Artists work in collaboration with residents, uncovering beautiful stories and establishing moments of connection through music, dance, and tactile art. It was a privilege to witness the intimate moments between our artists and residents. Assia and Mohammed sharing stories of their native countries, Rainer dancing with Annie, Robyn singing Doris Day's Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps in Spanish for Yilda. The party ended with Que Sera Sera. Paulette, the Care Home Activity Manager, says this is always the closing song because it prompts a proper knees-up. It sounds beautiful. 💛 #Care #carehomes #community #communityarts #creativity #music #dance #art #walkingthroughwalls #southwark #towerbridge #connection #stories #artists

"Joyous cohesion. An unexpected rising of energy... remembering who we are and why we are here." A beautiful blog from our archive by Zoe Gilmour, which encapsulates the joy and the poignancy of delivering creative sessions in care homes. It emphasises "the depth of a single moment" - how the arts, experimentation and being playful can establish meaningful connections. https://lnkd.in/ezHwNrPx #care #carehomes #art #improvisation #community #connection #grace #joy #creativity #music #dance Nick Doyne-Ditmas Naomi Welford Charlene Low

"Mentorship and training for young freelancers is imperative. It is crucial that a dancer knows that just because he/she/they can teach a good session in a certain setting, it doesn't mean they must. Knowing where you do and don't feel comfortable is as important to the teacher as well as the participants." Important archive blog post by our associate artist Kirstie Richardson.
