Promoting agriculture & rural life in the East of England.
About us
The East of England Agricultural Society has a rich history dating back to 1797. The core goals of the Society are much the same now as they were at its inception, with the focus centred around promoting agriculture and rural life in the East of England. The Society, is a registered charity, and we are currently based at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. We also operate an events programme through the year from evening talks to conferences, dinners and our successful Kids Country educational outreach programme on all aspects of the field to fork journey. At the heart of the organisation is a membership base which is open to all and which helps support the Society’s charitable objectives alongside the wider agricultural industry and rural way of life. In return, members are entitled to a number of benefits such as discounted event entry, volunteer opportunities and bursary applications. The Society also manages the Marshal Papworth Trust, a fund supporting agricultural education in developing countries and a Scholars Programme to help fund our members to attend life changing courses and events.

This year marks the 9th anniversary of the NFU's Back British Farming Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the vital contributions of the food and agriculture sector. Lets celebrate and support our British farmers, they work through rain and shine, to produce food for the nation. These farmers play a crucial role in sustaining the economy, environment, and overall well-being of the country. Let us come together to celebrate and champion the efforts of these unsung heroes who are the backbone of our food industry. #backbritishfarmingday @backbritishfarmingNFU @NFUlife

This week is Air Ambulance Week. There is no denying that in rural areas where access can be limited, the air ambulance can be a huge help. Northamptonshire is covered by The Air Ambulance Service and Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire are covered by East Anglian Air Ambulance, both of whom welcome donations to keep them flying. Remember, downloading the What3Words app to your phone can help emergency services greatly when they are responding to calls out, especially to remote areas. We are in ploughing match season! These events offer skilled operators the chance to show off their ploughing skills, they could be using horse-drawn, vintage tractors or something a bit more modern to pull their plough but one thing is for sure, ploughing matches are a hub in the rural community. Locally Cambridgeshire County Ploughing Match took place last week, but there are still some more chances to visit coming up: Haddenham & District Ploughing Society on the 14th &15th, Willingham & District Ploughing Society on the 21st, Bedfordshire Young Farmers Clubs County Match on the 28th, Cottenham & District Ploughing Society on the 5th and Deeping & District Agricultural Association on the 26th October @ploughmen_ltd @bedsyfcploughingmatch https://buff.ly/3AC3ALU https://buff.ly/4fZ3D4u

As Schools begin to head back this week, we are delighted to share some Kids Country stats from the last academic year. Our Education Manager, Sandra and the team of volunteers have done a fantastic job of delivering field to fork events in schools. The hands on workshops cover a whole host of food and farming topics, including the journey of wheat from field to pancakes, the importance of bees and pollination or how soil is so important for planting potatoes. If you'd be interested in organising a Kids Country workshop for your local primary school, drop us a message!

Know your numbers week Did you know that you don't have to visit the doctors surgery to get your blood pressure checked? Your local pharmacy is sometimes a better option to get seen quickly, but it is also worth keeping an eye out at your local Livestock Market, FCN will sometimes fund nurses to attend the markets to deliver basic health checks such as blood pressure testing. Whether your at Bletsoes in Thrapston or over at Melton Mowbray, don't be shy to pop in and get checked out. https://buff.ly/4fhJeqS #KnowYourNumbers #BloodPressure

Beavers return to Northamptonshire for the first time in 400 years A family of beavers will be arriving in Northamptonshire this autumn to help manage and restore a wetland habitat by reshaping its waterways. The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire has announced the reintroduction of a family of beavers to the Nene Wetlands nature reserve. Expected to arrive in later this year, these beavers will help manage and restore the wetland habitat by reshaping its waterways, reducing scrub growth, and enhancing the reed bed areas. @wildlifebcn #nenewetlands #rushdenlakes #nature #northamptonshire Donate to the Beaver appeal https://buff.ly/4e9ZglB
