A new study of AI tool GitHub Copilot, titled the GitClear Study, has examined the quality of AI-assisted code and found that while the AI was good for adding code, it feel down when it came to removing, tidying or fixing code errors, and the end result was coding of a lower quality. Facebook is committing to its metaverse efforts in a big way, with 10,000 "high-skilled" metaverse-centred jobs coming to the EU in the next five years. This will include hiring across France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Director-general of the European Commission's digital unit, Roberto Viola, spoke last week about the need to increase cybersecurity investments within the union. The commission set aside 214 million euros for 2024 for cybersecurity, but Viola stated this amount needs to be doubled in the next mandate to ensure that Europe remains secure from cyberattacks, as while Europe has fewer ransom attacks than other regions, cybercrime is on the rise and pre-emptive action is a better course of action than reactive actions. It's already been a big month for Europe in terms of regulation changes. In addition to the news we discussed on Monday around cybersecurity on the content, the European Union has now approved the Artificial Intelligence Act, which will assign the risks of AI applications into three categories, and applications that cause unacceptable risk will be banned. While there are some concerns that this legislation may put off developers from advancing in Europe, many are calling this legislation a key milestone for both AI and Europe. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Regulation #Tech

Earlier this month, The European Commission adopted the first EU network code on cybersecurity, specifically for the electricity sector. This code will support a high level of cybersecurity for cross-border electricity flows in the continent by establishing a process of risk assessments, aimed at identifying entities that perform high-impact digitalised processes on cross-border electricity flows, their cybersecurity risks, and then the necessary mitigating measures that are needed. This is a big step towards better cybersecurity across Europe as a whole, not just within the electricity sector, and hopefully the first of more to come. #Cybersecurity #EuropeanCommission #CyberDefense

Despite growing acceptance of Bitcoin in the USA, including he United States Securities and Exchange Commission recently approving a wave of spot Bitcoin BTC exchange-traded funds, the European landscape remains complex for investors. The European Commission's Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) framework for managing and selling mutual funds prevents exchange-traded funds from being solely invested in Bitcoin, as this would class as one asset. This aims to protect investors from total financial loss, and encourage diversification of investment, but can seem restricting to potential investors. What do you think?
