Is there a better way to end institutional racism? The Alliance for Racial Justice is a collaborative network of organisations working across systems to eliminate racial inequality in England. It seeks to provide a strong, strategic voice and hold the government and public bodies to account on their legal duty to tackle racism and encourage these bodies to become anti-racist.     On 2nd September at 12pm, the Alliance is launching their first report, which looks at how UK institutions can do better to challenge and end institutional racism, with a focus on reforming the #EqualityAct. "New report 📢 Immigration Raids: An Antomy of Racist Intimidation Following the Government's announcement that it is ramping up raids and removals, our new report shows #ImmigrationRaids are racist intimidation. Co-authored with academics Monish Bhatia and Jon Burnett, we dissect the secretive and opaque nature of Immigration Enforcement’s intelligence gathering, guidance on multi-agency operations and police cooperation. In addition, we have found raids have a disproportionate impact on racialised communities and act as a method to divide or intimidate migrants and People of Colour while making millions for the #HomeOffice in the process. As politicians signal that raids are likely to increase, it is vital we stand up and send a clear message to the State: our communities do not consent to raids. Read our #HostileOffice report here: https://buff.ly/3XHGbAd We are also launching a new Reporting Tool to report and log immigration raids in your areas. This will serve as a tool to log immigration raids in your local area and we will soon be publishing a map tool alongside this. Stay tuned 📻 Access the reporting tool here: https://buff.ly/4cA86rt

We are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new competition to encourage and support companies fostering innovation in our natural world. Generously supported by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, our three-year Farm491 Challenge Prize series will enable companies, which are developing innovative ways to solve challenges in the natural world, to invest in their business and develop their product.  For the first year of the Farm491 Challenge Prize series, the challenge is ‘Mixed Land Use’.  Land is under unprecedented pressure in the UK and globally, to make space for carbon sequestration, biodiversity, food and energy production, and housing, and one of the possible solutions is to stack land uses, finding synergies that mitigate this resource competition.  We are looking for companies that are developing innovative products and services to support nature friendly, multifunctional land use. These could include enabling agroforestry, regenerative and productive housing development, intercropping food and non-food crops, or co-producing food and renewables. Entries for this year’s competition are open now and will close on 27 September 2024. Companies who have been shortlisted will be notified by 9 October 2024 and this will be followed by an online pitching workshop for shortlisted companies which will take place in November.    The event will culminate in a Pitching Day held at Farm491 HQ at The Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester on 5 December 2024 where the winner and runner-up of the 2024 Farm491 Challenge Prize will be selected by a panel of academics and industry experts.  The winner will receive an incredible £50k and the runner-up £25k to advance their businesses.   Further details, eligibility criteria, terms and conditions and application form can be found on the Farm491 website at https://lnkd.in/ehmydP_X #Farm491 #Farm491ChallengePrize #Farm491ChallengePrize2024 #EsmeeFairbairnFoundation #RoyalAgriculturalUniversity #AgriTech #FoodSystems #Farming #Agriculture #Innovation

"Legitimate concerns" about migration are thinly veiled racism. Migrants are being blamed for the Government’s austerity policies, amongst other claims that migrants are “stealing your job” or “invading your country”. This language of “legitimate concerns” of the ‘average Brit’, using an imagined White working class figure, from politicians also allows them to distance themselves from the racist violence, despite the mobs using rhetoric and slogans of the current and former governments. They position racism (and racist violence) as grassroots/community-led, rather than originating from the top. Ultimately, anti-migrant violence (both rhetorical and physical) and Islamophobia have been separated from racism. When these forms of oppression are not seen as racist, it allows them to become normalised. It means people can say they have “legitimate concerns about migration” with impunity and no fear of being called racist. When you start ‘legitimising’ concerns about migration you are enabling racism and echoing the far-right.
