Today’s #EverlawExtraordinaire interview is with Sean Wiederkehr, Everlaw Solutions Architect, whose band is releasing its third album today! ⚡ Tell us about your unique talent or role outside of Everlaw, and how you came to pursue it? "I've always loved music. A friend of mine was dating a guy who happened to play drums, and his brother happened to play guitar! We just kind of stumbled into meeting. We thought it would be fun to get together for a jam. We'd all written songs before so we just brought some stuff to mess around with. It was really fun so we kept playing, eventually writing new material together. Now our band is releasing our third album. It's a great collaborative environment!" ⚡ How do your activities outside of work enhance your performance or approach at Everlaw? "First, I think performing in a band helps a bit with public speaking/performance anxiety type things. You get used to being up in front of people and executing. Second, I think is the writing. It is a fun mental exercise writing a song. The economy of words is important. cutting out extra filler words/syllables (or adding them in for that matter). Playing with words to evoke an image or feeling. Having greater agility with language translates well with my job as a Solutions Architect." ⚡ What are the most valuable lessons you've learned from your pursuits outside of Everlaw, and how have they influenced your perspective or methodology at work? "I'd say that paying attention to the response you're getting and adjusting. I had a song that I really loved. I thought the lyrics were clever and expressive. Everything was sorted out musically. But playing it live wasn't getting the response I expected. One of my band mates had "some notes" (haha) on my delivery of the song live. I needed to bring a different energy than when we'd recorded it. Live and on record are such different experiences. I took the notes to heart and next show it got a much better response. I needed to be open to hearing the feedback. I needed to understand I was failing to deliver the song in a compelling way! And I need to put that feedback into action. This definitely applies to my work at Everlaw as a Solutions Architect where I often need to listen to how my audience -- usually a prospective customer -- responds and deliver what they need.  I've tried very hard to not use the phrase "egoless communication" -- one of Everlaw's company values -- but I seem to have cornered myself and now I have no choice but to say it ..." #LifeAtEverlaw
