Non-profit Organization Management

We redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. We are doers. We are a community. We change lives.

About us

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create over two million meals for vulnerable people. Today we are launching our manifesto ahead of the General Election, calling on the next Government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need. Titled “Where’s the Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution”, the manifesto lays out measures to incentivise businesses to redistribute more of their surplus, proposals to support the redistribution sector and strengthen communities in the process, and a plan for a wider food system reset. We are calling for: 💚 Subsidies for farmers to cover redistribution costs 💚 Tax benefits for businesses donating surplus food 💚 Mandatory food waste reporting 💚 Clear guidelines for ‘good samaritans’ on food donation safety 💚 Sustained funding for farm level food redistribution 💚 A UK-wide plan to end charitable food aid 💚 Resources for local food waste and food security projects By working together, government, the third sector, and industry can overcome the challenges to redistributing surplus – and ensure more food reaches the people who need it. Edinburgh Marathon 25/05/2025 for FareShare

After the Group strategy day in July, I wanted to do something with FareShare, on behalf of the SH Pratt Group, to raise awareness and money for this amazing charity. I was genuinely moved by some of the stories they presented, and what impact we have had on their mission to redistribute good-to-eat, surplus food. I'll be running the Edinburgh Marathon in May 2025. I have set myself a target to raise £1000. I'll post regular(ish) updates on my Just Giving Page and through my Facebook and Strava pages. Running is ugly - unless you spend all your time taking selfies on the way round, and even more time afterwards editing them for the socials... https://lnkd.in/d_mfK4MD https://lnkd.in/dhF4QnpS https://lnkd.in/dTgqKe2s

🍓 We recently filmed at Tasker Partnership, who we have had a wonderful partnership with for four years. We collect surplus strawberries from Tasker Partnership on a weekly basis, to prevent good-to-eat strawberries from going to waste and help to get to them to charities across the UK that support children and families like Nippers 💚 If you are a food business who does not already work with us, join us in powering the UK's charities that rely on food to strengthen their local communities summer. As the new school year approaches, alarming new research highlights a growing crisis in our schools: more teachers are being forced to personally provide food to students due to welfare concerns. A recent survey by FareShare found that teachers across the country, particularly in the North West and London, are increasingly stepping in to meet students' basic needs. In response, FareShare's "Where's The Food?" manifesto offers a plan to ensure more food reaches those in need and urges the government to tackle the economic and structural factors driving poverty. Support our cause and help create a sustainable food system: https://lnkd.in/eSAvN7Jv

Last month, Cereal Partners Worldwide (Nestlé & General Mills) hosted FareShare CEO George Wright and Commerical Manager Bronagh Rigney to speak at their 'Better Lives’ conference. Nestlé has been a long-standing and dedicated partner of FareShare UK for 19 years now and were our very first delivery partner back in 2005! To date, Nestle and Cereal Partners have diverted the equivalent of 9.3 million meals to the frontline charities in our network, 2832 charities in the most recent 23-24 financial year alone. It is our on-going mission to continue supporting people struggling with food poverty and insecurity, and we can only do that with the contribution from the food industry. We look forward to seeing what the next year holds as we approach our 20-year milestone.
