Looking for a fulfilling career that makes a difference? Have you considered childminding? Karyn McKay, from Glenrothes, is a registered childminder and loves her role. Karyn prioritises outdoor play as well as life skills, such as gardening and cooking. Her business gives her the flexibility to offer the children she looks after lots of time in the local natural environment. “I initially qualified as an early years officer and worked in a nursery, which I enjoyed, but childminding offers more flexibility with hours, and I can work from home. “It was wonderful when my children were younger as I didn’t have to worry about childcare or school holidays. “I now prefer to deliver childcare in a homely environment, with a slower pace, where I can meet the individual needs of children. I look after up to 5 or 6 children, aged 3-5 years old, for 4 days a week. This gives the children lots of 1-1 time in a quiet and supportive environment. Fife Council has taken ownership of the new St Columba’s RC High School and Woodmill High School at Dunfermline Learning Campus. These state-of-the-art facilities will open to pupils on 21 August, 2024, offering innovative learning spaces and sustainable designs.
