We are pleased to share that our project, 252-256 Uxbridge Road in Shepherd’s Bush, has been shortlisted in the Unbuilt ‘Housing’ category of the New London Awards 2024. On a site that was formerly Shepherd’s Bush Police Station, the scheme consists of 53 residential units (35% affordable) and 3 flexible commercial units on the ground floor. The landscaped courtyard is designed to support physical and mental health by providing areas for relaxation and recreation, additionally the deck access typology provides a place for residents to congregate and socialise. Richness of detail is in the form of ‘playful’ brickwork which adds aesthetic value and connects the site’s past use with the present, fostering a sense of place and community identity. The flexible commercial units will allow adaptation to the evolving demands of community needs; whilst enhancing the public realm with active frontages along Uxbridge Road. Formation Architects has been shortlisted for the Best Architect Employer of the Year Award. Earlier this year BD announced all the architects who made it on to the shortlists for our prestigious annual Architect of the Year Awards. Now we are shining the spotlight on each category in turn and publishing a selection of the entries that impressed the judges. In 2023, the employee-owned practice was awarded the Mayor’s Good Work Standard for employment best practice. It is currently in the process of applying for B Corp accreditation. Formation has agile working arrangements, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, and various activities promoting work-life balance.
